ported heads or not

I've searched about 20 pages, and I was unable to come up with anything...

anyway, I am gonna be putting in a hotcam kit over the winter(along with headers, gears, torque converter). I am not looking for anything extravagent, i want driveability, and passing emissions.

What are my head/intake porting options for this cam? Can I get at least 20 rwhp from a good job? Or is this cam too mild to reap any benefits? Would i be better off going with 1.7 rockers for a better use of heads? Let me know so i can plan accordingly! If its not worth it, I won't bother.

Thanks.

Re: ported heads or not

Why did you pick the hotcam?

Ported heads will give you a TON more than 20 hp

How does 400+ rwhp with a stock shortblock, a few bolt-ons, and a cam?

Check out Advanced Induction or Lloyd Elliot heads.

Pick your cam to match the heads, not the other way around.

I agree, but I want something thats streetable for an auto, with some low end grunt and that i dont need a 4000 stall for, something that will pass emissions, something with some good lope. Is there a better cam for that then the hotcam? I am all ears for my setup but meeting that criteria. btw, 400 rwph does sound sweet.

www.advancedinduction.com

Check out that site and poke around a little bit, and let us know what you think after

I guess what I'm saying is that the hotcam isn't the be-all end-all camshaft for the LT1.

First we should see what your budget is, and what your goals with the car are, what you want to do with it (autocross, drag, street/strip etc.)...

But, a custom or an 'already defined' cam is not going to cost you much more than a hotcam, and it will be better suited to YOUR combo...

A hot cam with ported heads, headers, catback , etc should get you around 350 RWHP and some where in the low 12s at the track.

Well, my car isnt my daily driver. However, I am not looking to make it into any kind of a racer, more of a cruiser with some mojo. My budget is pretty unlimited, i dont really have a time constraint or a money constraint. However and unfortunatly, I have other places to spend money in my life at this point, so a cheaper kit is ideal. Once I need a re-build(or if i spin a damn bearing) in the future, ill go much more radical and build a procharger application.

What sells me on the hotcam is that it comes with nearly everything i need already, and i can re-use alot of stock parts. If I could hit around between 340-360 at the wheels with a head/cam combo, keep it streetable, etc, i will be happy. . I still have a month or so before I make my choice, so I will do some more research. Thanks for the advice thus far.

Even for an auto? Cool. . Sounds like this will meet my criteria.
