Port stock Lt1 heads???

OK i'v been reading about instead of buying an lt4 kit just port your own heads and etc, my ? is can i port my heads myself. I saw a set of stock Heads off an Lt1 camaro for $200 now if i was to take the time and port them myself is it possible and how would i pollish them what does that do. Im new at this so i dont feel like spending a **** load of money. I'd rather do it myself. I am still wondering about the Lt4 converson kit is it worth it just to say i have a lt4 or could i just go about bigger cams???

I'd save up for a professional to port the heads... Unless u like to fiddle around and dont mind pulling heads and spending some more cash on gaskets and stuff... wanna practice or something

You can port your heads.. but any professional will get more power out of your heads...

some guys have home ported heads, but the gains also depend on what cam you choose.sorry dont know of any sites that show what to do.

biggest problem with home porting heads is that unless you have a flow bench, you wont know what you did is hurting or helping the flow/port velocity/volume.

Go to cylinderhead specialties and ask Chris about porting. he knows his stuff and is also doing my heads at a very resonable price.

I wouldnt recommend porting your own heads. but if u do choose to find a flow bench to put your heads on to see if your helping or hurting them...

my stock heads were ported by Advanced Induction and I was very pleased by their work. car made 409rwhp n/a with a 142k miles on the stock bottom end. they also have a econo port job they do that is cheaper and i believe a guy on here has that witht he gm847 cam and made somewhere around 412rwhp I believe maybe he will chime in.

If done wrong 310-350rwhp
If done right 380-400+rwhp

I made 412rwhp with an Econport job (actually 405rwhp SAE )
But hey, thats still over 400rwhp with under 600$ is port and machine work. I have a few tricks left up my sleeve to get it to around 420rwhp SAE this winter.
