Popping out of 1st gear
Popping out of 1st gear
Sometimes when I am in 1st gear, it pops out of gear for no apparent reason.. Anyone have this problem and know how to fix it.. And the shifter is definitley fully in gear when this happens..
Does it do anything strange while going into or while in 2nd gear. You quite possibly have either a bad synchro or something inside the synchro is bad. It usually doesnt happen to first and second gear though, its usually 3rd and 4th that have the problems, but its definitely possible. Should not be the shift fork like sometimes happens to the 3/4 fork, since if I remember right the 1/2 is steel.
The same thing happens to my mom's volvo. I almost have to hold 1st gear so it doesnt pop out. She had the tranny replaced a little while back because it was popping outta 4th. It has about 130,000 milles on it with the original clutch and my bro learned to drive on it and so did i, so the clutch is pretty much shot but still works, but the popping outta 1st started maybe 5,000 miles ago or so. I'd like to get an idea of what is going on also, even tho it may be slightly different from the camaros....so TTT
Its gotta be your synchros. Was there many mishifts and or grinding of the gears (grinding the gears does not actually happen, the gears are always meshed against each other, when it grinds it is the syncrho grinding).

All the gears are constantly meshing with the input shaft gears at all times. The synchros are what locks into a certain gear, there are several teeth on the syncros that get locked by a collar that slides over it, hard to explain you have to see it. But as far as I know unless somehow when it grinds the gears come out of place, the only thing that grinds is the synchro teeth against the collar. Anybody that knows better correct me, but when I took mine apart this is what I figured out by thinking logically about it.
Just so your not waiting for nothing, nobody is going to be able to tell you exactly what is causing this, we can tell you what it could be, which is a few different things, so you will have to have the tranny apart to know for sure, or take it somewhere, youll pay about $200 or so for the labor, make sure you supply the parts though from www.d&dperformance.com since you will pay up the butt if the shop buys the parts, and D&D has great prices and everything you could ever need for a T56.
