Question Poly Motor Mounts... Install questions ???

Will be installing poly motor mounts tommorow with a friend... Is there anything special we should know before we dig into it?? Or is it straight forward? Any install pages to help?

Thanks in advance..

just did it on my LS1...can't be much different.

IT AIN'T EASY!

took me better part of 12 hours to get everything out, bushing swapped, and everything back in.

some hassles i ran into (could be specific to the LS1)

-had to remove the alternator cause it's mounted on the bottom driver side, couldn't pull the motor mount pin out the alt was in the way.

-had to remove the starter to get access to the passenger side

-had to remove both parts of the pass. side mount, the part that bolts to the block with the bushing, and the part that bolts to the crossmember. couldn't get the enough room to remove just the block part.

-on both sides i had to play with the height that i jacked the motor up in order to reach certain bolts, one position you could get to one bolt, but not another type thing.

ON THE POSSITIVE SIDE
the motor barely moves now when revved...it cured my ORP from hitting the frame!!! no more CLUNK on launches!

yeah it sucks!

you have to totally remove the bracket, and drill through the rivets, then seperate the clamshell design and put the new mount in it.

the part that REALLY sucked was getting the passenger side mount to slide back into place and line up so the bolt could go through it............it would probably be a lot easier with a friend to help.

do one at a time, in cause you hadnt guessed already.

got_hp? & Teke184,
Now that you have a Polymount motor in, do you feel any more vibrations with a harder poly bushing in there? Or this it feel completely stock on the highway and around town.

Thanks,
Claude

I didn't notice any extra vibrations when I put 'em in my LT1.....The job wasn't too bad but I was doing headers at the time anyway. I pulled my old ones and sat them next to the new ones and there was quite a difference. One of the old ones was noticably squished, and one was streched.

Wish us luck...

Thanks for the replys..

Any specials hints or tricks I could use ??

Will I have to drop the y-pipe (I've got 93 style slp's with single cat)

Thanks

It shouldn't take you 6 hours. You just put a jack under the car and relieve the pressure of the engine on the thru-bolts, take them out, and then take off the three bolts on each side which hold the clamshell type bucket to the car. You'll have to drill the rivets out of the clamshell (this is easy if you have the right size drill bits, don't remember which size) and replace the mounts. The drivers side has some bolts to use in place of the rivets. The passenger side doesn't. The hardest part will be getting the thru-bolts back in. I'd leave both sides loose until you get those in, then start to tighten everything down. You should have it done in three hours easily.

shouldn't have to drop the Ypipe...although if you can remove the bolts easily, it may allow you to jack the motor up more which will give you more room.

and i noticed NO added vibration....granted i've only had them in for 30 miles...

i even put a poly TA mount in at the same time and still don't notice anything.

just take your time and take lots of breakes....

and i would highly reccomend only doing one at a time....that way you have something to keep the motor in relative alignment when trying to get the bolts to line up. i made the mistake of removing both.

We'll only do 1 at a time... I dont need a headache, hehe

Its either the poly's or Solid's

I have both but chose to do poly's... I think the solid's will be way to harsh...

I dunno though.. I'd only have to do em once....

Its a pain either way...

I've also got poly tranny and t/a mount as well...

You get used to them...

Not bad at all. It really helps stiffen things up. Wish i tried solid mounts, but this job is such a PITA I don't want to have to do it again. Changing motor mounts should be done whenever a person installs headers from now on. I wish I had done it at that time.

would highly reccomend only doing one at a time
Yeah, me too!

Question

What do u guys experience with bad motor mounts? I wonder because I notice a light vibration of the motor as I turn the car off. I have 103k miles on original mounts and I have a new tranny mount already on.

id go with the poly........theyre pretty damn tough, and it wont vibrate too bad like a solid will.

unless you like vibrations
