there are 2 hurst shifters out there supposidly. the one you get is the factory hurst or the shifter that comes in SS camaros or other special F-bodies. that shifter i think is what most ppl are saying is crap.. i cant say b/c i havent used it. the hurst i am referring to has a long chrome handle on it like the old ones did.

i think leverage has something to do with the difference. a short throw takes more of a jerk to get it movin but the distance is traveled is less... longer throws take less force to move them but of course they arent as quick.. simple physics at play here. but still the pro 5.0 feels like its in gates or somethin the way it pops in and out of gear and makes a lot of noise.

I have a Pro 5.0/Lou's short stick combo in my 95 Trans Am (50 bucks on Ebay for the Pro 5.0 ) Its noticeably noisier than the stocker, but the throw is much shorter and goes right into gear. I'm loving it (Brother can't rib me for having a mile long throw anymore)

It also sits VERY low

Did you cut the short stick to make it the midget stick?

I had the Hurst-Comp with a Lou's short stick-I never tried a ripper or a 5.0-didn't see the need too-never missed 3rd gear after the Hurst-anyone of the mentioned will be better than the stocker.

Eventhough I have an A4, All my friends that have a 6 speed say the Pro 5.0 is the best. I hear people saying the other ones are OK but I have NEVER Heard of anyone complain about the 5.0.

Hope that helps,
thanks,
Claude

Without a dought the 5.0 cant be beat. What some call notchy I call precise and positve and it is that. I havent missed a 2-3 shift with it and I missed it alot with the stocker. Cut about an 1 1/2 off the stick and row away. Put a dab of loctite on the set screws for the stick to keep them in place. It has to be my favorite mod because there is nothing more agitating than missing a shift on a 1/4 mile run.

coundnt have said it better myself.

I have the B&M ripper and although I've never experience any others, I love how it feels, short, snappy, and precise shifts.

I have the Hurst and love it. My buddy has the hurst that came in the SS and it sucks. Its sloppyand long throws.

I wish i knew what model was in mine, but i dont??? It came with it already. Not chrome shaft, not the black shaft, HURST down the slanted stick and stock black ****. Shaft is just a dull metal color. I guess its the Comp Plus, b/c i know i havent seen one like it ever for sale.

Anyways, the thing rules. Self center, short throws, quiet, and not notchy, but easy to find gears. Only time i ever missed a shift was when my clutch was shot and wasnt functioning correctly.
