Too bad you didn't put that in the original post. That leaves plug wires, fuel filter, and O2 sensors still to go from Spinners original post that you can check on.

I would also check all your vacuum lines.

Do a search on the gas smell, I believe it is the charcoal canister that may be causing that problem. Fuel filter isn't but about $10, change it anyway, always a good idea to change it every 15K - 20K miles. O2's could also be a part of your problem.
