please help with ignition

so a while ago my car started acting up. most of the time it would start up and run just fine but every once in a while when i started it it would immeditly wanna die unless i held th gas at a steady rpm. but if i took the key in and out a few times and turned the car on and off it would be fixed . it practially went away for a while but now it is back worse than ever the car wont stay running unless i stay on the gas keeping it at 1k rpm . i headrd it may be the prongs in the igniton switch not contacting sometimes ? any ideas or how can i find the igniton switch

There is ignition switch info on my Tech Page, but not sure that is your problem. The switch is not known to make the engine sputter or barely run and pressing on the gas pedal sure would not change what the switch was doing. Your situation may call for a fuel pressure check.

Re: please help with ignition

check fuel pressure. check spark on all cylinders. check plugs for fouling...you can do this by pulling the wire off the plug and leaving it within sparking distance. if the car acts up when you pull it off and then starts acting good when it goes back near the plug the plug is fine. if it doesnt do anything then the plug or the opti for that cyl is bad and you need to either replace the opti or that wire/plug.

If its not throwing your check engine light on, you probably don't have no miss, i'm not sure, but even one miss will not keep your car from running. Does it seem like it won't idle at all, seems like thats your problem. I would check your Idle Air Control Valve "IAC", it may be sticking, try cleaning it, if that don't work then you may just need to buy another one. I had that problem and i had to buy a new one, It fixed my problem.

good lead im gonna check that tomorrow along with fuel pressure. the problem doesnt seem like a miss... the engine runs and runs fine as long as im holding the gas, but once i let off it wont idle and dies. also i can drive the car as well as long as its under load or accelerating it will be fine but when i push in the clutch or come to a slowing stop it dies
