Please help! Hotcam problems

I finally got my hotcam in my 93 Z28 this afternoon, hooked everything back up, and pluged everything back in, filled up the coolant, and went to start it. It didnt want to start, but when I stepped on the gas a bit, it fired up, but ran like crap. It won't idle at all and barely runs below 2K rpm. I don't have any trouble codes and I did get a reprogramed chip from PCMFORLESS. I'm out of ideas; does anyone else have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Make sure you plugged the wires into the opti correctly... Make sure all your spark plug wires are on.

You didn't have to force your opti back on did you? If you had to use any force to get it on you may have screwed up the timing. Also, did you put the timing chain back on perfectly so that you didn't mess up the timing at all? When I did my hotcam install, with stock tunning it started right up almost as if it were still stock cam.

No, the opti went right on without a problem. The timing chain was lined up right also. It will run once it's over 2K rpm, but it is extremely rich and rather rough.

The most common thing is the plug wires are on wrong (as Rodrigues suggested).

That's what I suspected too, but I checked the wires and they were all on there right too. I'll check them again tomorrow though.

Has anyone installed a Hotcam in a 93? Will it run with the stock prom because I tried it on the stock prom and the new chip, and it didnt make much of a difference. It was slightly rougher above 2K and still would not idle with the stock prom.

I would see if it is throwing any codes, I still think that you plugged in the wrong spark plugs for the opti. I couldnt imagine what else it could be. I am doing my install currently so this interests me. I am really worried that iti wont run well when im done because I did something wrong.

I bet you the chip is bad, I had 2 come in, both were bad, the third one did the trick wouldn't even run below 2k

You sure all the valves are adjusted right? My hotcam ran fine once I got the wires on the opti right.

Well, I'm thinking maybe I got the valves too tight. The car has been sitting since Tuesday, so i'm sure the lifters have bled down. Would the valves being adjusted too tight cause it run so poorly?

Yes, if the valves are too tight, it won't run well at all because of loss of compression.

I'm having the same problem with my 95.

The problem might be that the PCM still has the spark & timing curves from the stock cam stored.

Maybe you can try this (not sure if it works on the Speed Density system):
