Angry PLEASE HELP !!! car wont run

I have a problem, my car will start up in the mornings, but it only runs for a few minutes than it dies and wont start up again. It will crank but no fire. I changed the optispark, battery, coil, tps sensor, and the fuel filter, but nothing has helped. It seems it only runs as long as the choke is on, then when the choke or what ever it is kicks off, it shuts the engine down. I dont have any idea what or where to check as I dont know much about these cars, but I know somebody out there knows so please give me an idea where to check...something.

I had almost the exact same problem only it would die and then i could restart it after a few seconds wait. I went back and double checked the connections and a hose was off so i guess that was it. I also hooked a fuel gauge up and watched it for the first 5 minues while it warmed up to be sure it was not the fuel pump. I don't know for sure what it was but since it stopped it doesn't really matter.

The reason why your car wont start and keeps shutting of on you is because it has not yet accepted you as its master. The LT1 is a powerful beast that demands a real man to drive it.

Alright I'm just joking... but you should check your MAF That's one thing that can cause that. Try running it unplugged... also does it throw any codes?

I cant find my maf sensor, can the chip be programed to bypass that?, becouse it is not there. I did find a problem code 19(low resolution pulse, or something close to that name. I am at work now so I dont have my book)). I changed everything except the ignition module and i guess my optispark, I changed the distributer cap, and rotor button. What is the optispark any way? I here alot of you say you changed the opti., but is that behind the distributer cap, a disk with slots and a reader. If so is it hard to change? This all started strangely enough with my water pump, and now it only runs about once a day for about 3-5 min. Still looking for help. Thanks

MAF is between air filter and TB. i f it aint there that is an issue. code 16 means the opti is junk.

sounds like your tps sensor is bad. Once your computer goes into closed loop after 2 minutes it's causing it to die because it has too low voltage. Sounds like it

If your pulling a code 16 it's something to do with your optispark, maybe a corroded optispark wiring harness?

You can get a new harness for $35.00

How many miles are on your current optical spark unit.

The opti is new, but its from autozone so I dont know if its any good. If its a bad opti will the car still run randomly? I started it tonite and it ran for 20 min. , untill I shut it off, but it wouldnt start back up after that.

Still confused about the MAF sensor, the onlt thing between the air filter and the throttle body is the IAT sensor and a 1in. hose that plugs into the air ducting. The hose goes to a 4 or 5 in. plastic cylinder that has a 3 wire connector. Unless thats it, but that aint what the picture shows. Real motorhead aint I , using pictures to learn.

Was it the autozone cap and rotor kit, or did you replace the entire optical spark unit?

This is an LT1 MAF unit.... do you have one of these connecting from your Intake to your throttlebody inlet elbow at all?

I did not replace the entire opti, just the cap and button. Autozone said they did not have a listing for any more of it. You are talking about a disk with 360 slots for the timing and I beleave another 8 slots for the tach. right? I got a Haynes book and it dont tell how to change the rest of the opti. It says to take it to a profesional. Also no I dont have a MAF sensor(thanks for the picture cause now I know what it looks like)any where between the filter and the throttle body. I bought this car a year ago, the guy I got it from put the LT1 in it (originally had a 6 cyl. in it) so I dont know really where the engine came from or what is and aint hooked up but it ran like a beast, it was only after I pulled it out of winter storage that it started this problem
Keep it coming.

Well.. since you just replaced the cap and rotor then it's probably the optical unit that went out... the electronic part of the opti. You should replace the entire unit now. If you don't have an MAF on your car it's probably tuned for speed density mode or what ever the hell they call it.
