Please help, car runs horribly!
Please help, car runs horribly!
As I said in a earlier post, both of my head gaskets are currently blown. My mechanic says he discovered this as he was replacing the rear main seal. Since Ive got my car back, its ran like ****. At idle, part throttle, it acts like it wants to cut out. It continuously stumbles until I hit the gas again. It usually idles at 750rpm, its gone down as low as 550-600 recently. Could this be a result of the blown gaskets. It would make sense but it didnt run like this before I took it in. I didnt have the funds at the time to get it fixed when he told me this and I dont live in the same town (going to school in Tallahassee, folks live in Panama City where hes located). I asked him how long I could wait before getting this fixed and he told me a month or two. Right now, the car runs like it wont last through the week let alone a month. If its the leaking gaskets causing me this, I'll definetly get it fixed sooner and just borrow the money from somebody. So what do yall think, could blown head gaskets be causing the Z to run this way?

RCF925, thats what I thought. But the guy said since its a small leak on each side, I should be ok for a while. I guess Im gonna just drive it as least as possible, if at all. The soonest I can get it done is over Labor Day weekend since the guy said it would take 3 days to do and I start school next week. The only problem is that I ofcourse have to drive it two hours back to Panama City to even get it done. I dont know or trust anyone here in the Tallahassee area, so should I seek someone out and avoid the two hour drive. Or go with someone I know and trust and drive back to Panama City? I think I'll start calling around for estimates around here first.
This guy has done good work on my pops 95'Sierra and my brothers 70-something Charger, but I dont think hes quite up to date on the newer technology cars. He also tried to tell me a higher stall would tear up my rear-end? Guess Im kinda confused, coolant in the oil. As a result from the leak?
im sorry i misread your 1st post i thought you had just gotten you head gasket fixed and now you have a new problem. if you have blown head gaskets you either have white smoke from the exhaust, antifreeze in your oil, or both. when coolant gets in the oil, it ruins your bearings and youre in the market for a rebuild. if you truly have a blown head gasket, its not safe to drive anywhere.
I havent noticed any white smoke from the exhaust but I'll look for that next time I start it. I have noticed a heavier exhaust scent after I shut it down. Thanks for the advice. I figured I shouldnt be driving it with blown head gaskets but I guess I was taking more stock in what my mechanic says than I should have. I guess I'll just try and get it fixed here in Tallahassee even though Im sure I'll end up spending more money. Just have to wait for my school loans to come in and have to find a ride to campus.
Ive actually been on a local Tallahassee car club forum and these guys are pretty willing to help with the job as long as I provide pizza and beer. I dont have a garage though and dont think my gravel driveway would be the best place to do the job. Guess we'll have to see. I would also need some new head bolts along with the gaskets, right?
