Exclamation Please Help, cant Leave My House!, Car Just Died!!

Ok i got in my car tonight to go to class and i start the car and about 10 seconds later it just shuts off. I put the key back in to restart it and nothing happens, the starter doenst even kick in, i dont get any sounds, its as if it just died. Now heres the wierd part, i get power throughout the car, lights, cdplayer etc, but i dont get any STATUS lights, EX: Check Engine, ASR OFF, ABS INOP.... The lights (back lights) of the dash come on only when i turn my running lights on. When the engine shut off i didnt make any wierd noises, it just shut off. It sounded like what would happen if you pulled the entire intake off up to the throttle body ( 90 Degree elbow and down) and tried to start the car (It fires up at first but then kills itslelf when it realizes the Intake is off). The last thing i did to the car was the throttle body bypass. I did this yesterday but i dont see how this could affect the car. This problem seems as if its in the computer. All my mods are listed on my sig. PLEASE HELP, I CANT GET TO WORK OR SCHOOL !

So the cars not firing at all? I would say starter but the car died, not like your trying to start it and nothing. Sounds weird, either electrical or ignition, is there any coolant in the engine bay like on stuff?

I dont believe any of the dash lights came on, i can double check!

What i dont understand is if this problem is due to coolant gettin on stuff, why would it take a day and half to have any kind of an affect ?

All idiot lights and gauges went dead? Ignition switch. Not the key cylinder but the switch down on the steering column.

For a temporary fix, try flipping the key back and forth numerous times to see if anything changes.

Don't forget the basics like checking ALL the fuses.

Ok will try both of those ideas right now. If for some reason it is that ignition switch (or even a blown fuse) how can i find the source of the problem?

security light would not be an issue, it would have prevented the car from starting at all.

This is incredible, my car did the exact same thing, its been dead for 3 days now. I bought a new battery and the radio and lights etc come on. But the idiot lights and other things by the gauges that normally come on when the key is turned on dont. How would i know if its the key lock cylinder or ignition switch? I need my car fixed and I want to do it myself

HEY, YOU 2! Whoever of you mentioned about the Security Light being on. Me and other girl I know have 96 and 97's camaros, and both of our security things would come on while we were driving. Mine stopped, hers didn't now her car wont START AT ALL. If you guys know how to fix this, PLEASE RESPOND! Email preferable, korben_14@yahoo.com or korben150 on AOL IM. It isn't the starter or any of that junk, its all been replaced!
Thanks in advance boys!

I could be wrong , but it sounds like the same problem we had with our 94 Z last year. At first it would only not start sometimes, then it wouldn't start at all. As ussual we turned to the people here and were saved once again, it turned out to be one of the wires for VATS in the ignition switch were damaged. The wires run all the way down the column and pug in under the bottom of the dash. You will need to disable the airbag and take off the wheel and lockplate. The lockplate tool I bought pretty cheap at pep boys, get it cause its a bitch to remove without it, allthough I have done it a few times on my 2nd gen before getting the tool. On our car the security light stayed on.You should have enough room to gently pull the blinker assembly and its wires up and out of the way. After you unplug the 2 small wires from under the dash use some tape and attach a string to the old clip before you pull it out this will help you pull the new wires back down thru the column. If you don't allready have a book for the car , get one you'll need it. I hope this helps if this is your problem sounds like it. Check for the security light. Good luck.
