Please can anyone help I cannot take this anymore.(Fred??)
I have posted this several times with no replys. I have a 97 Z OBD2 car. Here is the problem. I can start the car and it will run fine for like 10 seconds and then shutoff. Sometimes I have to do this 10 times before it will stay running sometimes it will start and give me no prolbems. It seems that if I ever get it to stay started it will run all day without the problem ever coming back. But the next day it might do the same thing. I have replaced the opti, coil and coil wire. I have checked the fuel pressure and it is good. This problem has been going on for like a year I have just delt with it. I have pulled the motor installed cam and the PCM reprogrammed and all. I did the opti when the motor was out and it did not help. I am just fed up with having to start the car like 5- 10 times to get it running. I did have a local speed shop take a look and they put some sort of noid light on the injector and said the injector did lose signal. Cause sometimes it will get to the point that the motor will spin over and over but not fire. They suggested to replace the ing. control module. I don't no weather to do it or not cause its getting $$$ buying a bunch of parts that are OK. Well I am sorry this is so long but I am ready to just blow the car up. I just want to kick it everytime this happens. Any help is apprecitaed.

Try the ignition control module. I think it is cheap. My friends 94Z would start and just shut off. He fried his pcm chip. If there is a way to check your computer, I'd suggest to try that also. A lot of times, grounds get overlooked also.

if i were in your shoes, considering what you have done to try and fix it. i would go to the dealer have the pcm flashed and put back to stock and see if it still does it. the car should run on stock tunning on a 305. if that solves the problem and the car will run and stay cranked. then send the pcm to pcmforless and have them program it agian. and see what happens. then agian i may be shooting you in the wrong direction. just my 2 cents worth. sorry not more help.
I believe I'd run (not walk) to the nearest junk yard and pick up a PCM.
1. It will cost you less than running around to shops.
2. It doesn't hurt to have an extra one around (and you can always sell it to someone else to recoup most, if not all, of your cost.)
3. It just might solve your problem.
4. If it doesn't, you can at least eliminate a major possibility. JMHO

I feel for you man.It sounds to me like you have an electrical problem, corroded connecters even a bad connecter ,or a chaffed wire grounding out.I would disconnect all the connections on the ignition circuit that you can find and clean them. Also closely inspect your wires.Good luck,if you find it let us know..
do you get any codes when this happens?
how does the car respond if you give it gas w/in 10 sec. of it shutting off?
if your car throws an injector code...the car will die so you may be onto something with the fuel injectors but i doubt the actual injectors are what is causing it.
my car did something similar where it would start up for an instant and die, throwing about every fuel and spark code for OBD1...i converted. after replacing my opti..i have not had the problem until just last week when i got an opti code. i am convinced my PCM is lying to me.

This is just a thought and I am just trying to go in a different direction.
Does you car have the key with the resistor in it?? If so could the resister be going bad or the pass key system malfunctioning??
Could it be something to do with an alarm system or with a remote start or something??
I really wish I could add more but if I can make you or somone else think of something else maybe you can get to the bottom of this.
Good Luck

Ok guys thanks to the respone's. I have tried the car with the computer in stock trim and it still done this. So would yall try the ing. control module ?? Pearl Purple someone has mentioned that the Key could be the problem what should I do just have another key made?? I have a scanner and no codes what so ever have been throwed. When I give the car gas it rev's fine and will go 6K but then it will shut off. I will try the ing. control module and the key. Anyone else have any suggestion's??

Since people are throwing things out there. My wife's Mustang was doing the same thing. Start and shut down within 5 seconds, would stay running if you pushed on the gas and got the rpm's up. Started it like 5-10 times before it finally let me put it into gear. Turned out to be the "Idle Control Sensor" I could be wrong but I believe it is the same thing as the IAC on our cars. Please, someone correct me if I am wrong. Also, this is just my .02
OK guys it been a few months since I have posted the origanal topic. Well the car has been doing the same as in the first post and I have talked to several people about the prob. Most said the ing. control module or the PCM. Well here is the story I got my self a new apartment with a attached garage. The car has been in the garage for a few weeks. I have had no problems with the car cutting off. I was thinking well there has to be some moisture getting some were to make it cut off since it has not done it since it has been in the garage. O and BTW before I put it in the garage it was doing it on a regular basis. So I decide to take her to the track yesterday. On the way there my bottle heater power wire melted and started to ground on the PCM cover. When I stoped at a gas station to take it off I cut the car off. When I cranked it up bam the problem is back doing the same thing run good for 5-10 seconds and just shut off. I am thinking its got to be the PCM. So I get it started and drive on to the track.
I make a few passes runnig good and then go to start it for one last pass and the car starts cutting off and will not stay started. I tried probally 20 times so then I just call a friend to come get me with his trailor. While me and a friend were waiting I was like what the heck can I use your PCM for minute and see if it will start he had a 97. We put his PCM im mine and what do you no it fires up. I put mine back in and it cuts right off. So we trailor it home and my friends gives me his PCM out of his 96. I have swapped them like 5 times today his PCM runs fine and mine does the same thing just cuts off. So I guess the PCM has been the problem the whole time. I thought that I would share this with yall and sorry for such a long post. If anyone thinks any different please post and let me no.
