Planning on doing atleast a 355 rebuild

I'm gonna be doing atleast a 355 rebuild, meaning that I want to go 383 but I'm not sure yet. Anyway, I'm gonna buy a short block and have it built over time hopefully by a bud I found in the area who knows (what he says is) a good engine builder and then droppin it in. I plan on using the top end of my engine (heads on up). The engine has 158,000 miles on it. What can I do to the heads to prepare for the rebuild, but not affect my current (stock) setup to gravely? Do they soak heads like they do a block? I'm talking springs, rockers, pushrods. What else should I do to spruce her up?
