pitting in block surface ...what to do

In the middle of doing a h&c swap
As i was cleaning off the head gasket i noticed pits around the front pass side around the water jacket hole. They are right in the path of the head gasket.

There not to deep but enought i can feel
I need some opinions here...what to do
Pull the motor and resurface the block or is there some sort of machining i can do with the engine in the car.

Or should i go with a new block?

Did it leak before? If not I wouldn't give it a second thought, throw the gasket on it and put the heads on.

head gasket was leaking but not in that spot, I have everything pretty much off the motor, wouldn't be hard to yank it.
I would hate to go thru all the trouble of putting the new heads on and having them leak.

Not sure what kind of answer you're looking for then... If it wasn't leaking before, why would it start now? Unless you're going to use Cometics I would just leave it alone.

C5042081:

Why not just clean the pits and squeegee enough J-B Weld or some other epoxy to level the surface? (Just a thought)

that ran through my mind at first also, but what if he raised the portion too much? I think the gasket has enough in it to compress in and fill in crap like that.

I think that if you position the head gasket on the block, you'll see that the pitted area is exposed to the coolant flow. The gasket doesn't cover it. I doubt that there is a significant level of risk of another leak at that point.

I wouldn't worry about it, that's what the gasket is for.

Seriously I like your style. This tells me you're going to pay attention to detail and not overlook anything. Those who ignore some things that may be important pay dearly later. However you will learn through experience that things like this will need to be ignored. To me, it's nothing more than imperfections that have been around for the last 50+ years. I think you should be good to go. As already mentioned a paper gasket aides in imperfections like what you've portrayed.
Good luck to you.
