Piston to valve clearance?

I would like to know what is the maximum camshaft lift that a stock engine will take before you run into piston to valve problems? Just curious to know, I know there's alot of variables but what amount is guesstimated safe to to get away with?

Re: Piston to valve clearance?

On my 95 LT-1 vette with a LE-2 head & cam swap a couple weeks ago, I had a safe 100thou+ clearance for both the intake and exhaust valves on a cam with right around 600 lift / with 1.6 rockers.......my pistons are in the hole 15thou.....and we ran the impala gaskets 29thou thick.......although Iv'e done it many times in the past with NO problems at all, I wouldn't go any closer if I could help it.......Joe
