Piston help

I looked around the forums but couldn't find an answer. Does anyone know if LT1 pistons are the same as a SBC piston? It would be mint if they were because I have a set of .030 forged pistons laying around and wouldn't have to buy any. I just bought an LT1 out of a '95 State Police cruiser with 150K on it and would like to freshen the motor up.

Probly not, sure they will fit fine, but the compression will most likely be way off, if you know the dish of the piston and the compression height of them we could figure it out, but if they are for a carbed SBC they will put you well below 10:1 most likely which is fine, but you would rather go up not down.

For the question will they work, yes

Yeah, just compare the compression height, diameter, etc. etc.

But, you need to figure out if they're dome, flat top, dish etc., so that you can see what your CR will be.

yeah, the pistons in the motor are flat tops w/ 4 valve reliefs, as are the ones I have sitting around. I just wanted to make sure the rod pins were the same size and what not. It should yeild the same compression or a little more from the +.030

Now that we know they are flat tops, the compression height could still be shorter than stock yielding lower compression, larger bore wont increase the CR, it will decrease if anything I would think. Measure from the center of the wrist pin hole to the top of the piston, and someone that knows a stock CH measurement on an LT1 chime in with the #

Do you have a part# or brand off the piston?
