Picking up a 94 Formula A4 Tommorow

It's Black with Charcoal interior. 119,000 miles and looks clean in pictures.

What should I look out for?(sounds, etc).

I want this car to take me back and forth to work reliably until I start modding it which will be soon.

I know the optispark is a proble and my friend was saying if it has optispark problems I may not notice.

What are common problems with the car and what type of fuel is best?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Dan

Re: Picking up a 94 Formula A4 Tommorow

what to look for.

`clear title
`carfax
`oil leaks, rear main, diff, intake etc.
`leaking waterpump
`bald rear tires.
`bald front tires that were just taken off the rear.
`evaluate the owner, listen to how they talk about the car, referring to it as a toy, i walk away.
`look for paint work
`listen for noises when driving
`listen for loud tickings, knocks, etc under the hood
`look for smoke on start up, when at wot, and in general
`run it to red line, feel for misses throughout the rpm range.
`check the oil; motor and tranny
`check the coolant
`check the air filter, to see if its been changed within the past 12 years
`i always ask for how many previous owners its had. This gives you a chance to think of how many other people have beat on it that they dont even know of.
`see what works, what dont, headlights pop up? windows go up and dont more than one time in a row? radio? speakers blown? tranny shift smooth?
`Any noises coming from the rear end? whining? clunking?
`slam on the breaks? Feel any thing that you dont feel in your normal vehicle?these rotors tend to warp.
`any warning lights? ses? air bag? inop abs? etc

This is just the list i can think of off the top of my head that i went through when purchasing my newest car, yesturday There were some things that were wrong with it, but i was expecting there to be. It only has 67k on it. So expect there to be some work needing done on the forumla with it being a higher milaged car. Just check it out good. My advice, but who am i?

EDIT: on the optispark issue, i noticed a high rpm miss when mine went out on my previous car. This is common for the optispark problem.

gas wise? I run the highest octane at the gas station 92+ always.

It's ABS INOP. meaning the ABS is not working properly! May have a bad sensor or something. It's something to bargin down the price, but shouldn't be much of a concern to repair.

PS Good luck with it! You'll love it!

His asking price is $3250. How low do you think I can haggle him down to?

Thats not a bad price at all that he is asking, you can always try to chew him down some more, maybe even get it under 3 grand. The worst he could do is say no. With the ABS light on, you have some grounds to price hassle with him at least.

LMAO That's a really good price! I got mine (1995) with 160k for $3950, but the body and interior were in really nice shape.....1 female owner too! See how low you can go with him! The worst he can say is no!
