Performance Upgrade Questions
Hey guys. I have a 1995 Camaro Z28, Stock LT1 with an Auto tranny. Only upgrades I have are cold air intake and aftermarket exhaust, I suppose a beat out cat counts too.
Well, bad news for me is I have a cracked head. I'm getting that issue fixed, and for safety am going to replace both heads. I figure if I am going to do so, I may as well spend a little extra for upgrades.
I am planning on putting port and polished (I've said it a million times, hopefully I have the spelling down) heads on the vehicle, taking my intake and getting it port and polished as well. Since things will be open, I am going to convert my stock manifolds to shorty headers. I am also considering a Cam upgrade since it is right there.
My questions are, what are your best bang for your buck headers? I feel the vehicle will eventually be sold so I can get a 6spd, so I don't care to spend a fortune, but would like something with a good reputation. I see Hooker around a lot, they good?
I want to upgrade the Cam for a little extra power, but I also want the vehicle to remain a daily driver. I have seen plenty of these vehicles with big cams and the choking sound and shake of everything sounds awesome, but not what I'm looking for really. So what is a good cam kit for an LT1 for a little extra boost while keeping things comfortable? Maybe the LT4 kit?
For the P&P heads, I have not ordered them yet. Any of you who have read this, do you by chance live in or around Austin, Texas? If so, do you know of a local place that is good for getting these done and doing my intake? Those not in Austin, I am considering an Internet buy on the heads at least, any good sites?
Those are the things I am considering, thanks for reading. While the motor is apart, any upgrades that you recommend that will give the vehicle a little extra power without sacrificing the comfort of a daily drive? I know it's asking a lot, but this vehicle is the most comfortable, best driving type of car I have owned, and as much as I love stomping Mustangs, I'm not quite ready for a car that just screams power/pure racing/pull me over please. Thanks dudes.

ummm...depends on how much power you're looking for. i wouldn't waste my time with shorty's, i'd go long tubes for the extra torque. as far as your heads go, www.elliottsportworks.com is one of the head porting guru's and he's located in texas. give him a call and tell him what you're looking for and he can set you up with what you want
Maybe just fix it and then sell it so you dont have to mod a vehichle and then sell it to most likely mod the next one...JMHO, but it would be easier and alot cheaper just to mod the one that you are going to get than one that is most likely going to be sold.
