Comp Cams 218/224 is the largets cam that I can put in my Z with a stock torque converter. Compared to the stock cam for the LT-1 how rough of a idle does it have???

sounds pretty good at idle too - just don't expect a huge chunky idle like a cc306.

People with bigger cams have passed. If they can get a Hotcam and the CC305 to pass, this cam will pass with flying colors. I don't necessarily know if it would pass without tuning, but with tuning, definitely.
I keep thinking of more questions to ask yall
I called Comp Cams today and asked them what exactley it means by aftermarket chip for my car to be able to run this cam. they told me that i needed to call someone like hypertech and see if the power programmer would be able to modify the computer to run the cam. So i called hypertech held on the like for a good 10 - 15 mins finally get someone and they told me that i would need to find someone on the internet to do a custom tuning on my computer.. What do i need to do about this... should i just drop down to the 212/218 cam that does not require a aftermarket chip. or is there something else i can do that will not empty my bank account? ?
thanks again for any help.. im sure I will find something to ask in a few days

I have a generic off the shelf hypertech program in my car and I got the numbers in my sig. When I took my car for a dyno tune with bryan from pcmforless, he couldn't best the hypertech so you should be fine. One thing to consider though is that every car is different, so you may have to get a custom program. The only way to truly know is if you dynotune it. Hope this helps.
I'd go with a custom program if I were you. Either www.madz28.com or www.pcmforless.com should both work great.

I have been running the xe502 on stock tune for a while. Although I think the car would benefit from a dyno tune mainly to work out a few drivability issues such as cam surge and rich cold starts but all in all the stock tune should work OK. That being said I did have to raise my fuel pressure up to about 50psi to compensate for high long term trim with stock tuning they were pegged on 160 Anyway good luck with your cam swap.
