people with racetronix fuel pump kits

got to ask if anyone has a 93 first...and was it plug and play and a breeze for you?

so far i have had to modify the fuel bucket itself, and the top portion's skirt, and lengthen wires...maybe its just me, but this is not my idea of plug and play.

could you 94-97 people tell me if your fuel bucket hole had the same location as this? and if it was, did your pump have an offset pulling hole on the bottom like the stock one and not dead center?

I got a "Site unavailable" message when clicking on your link, but I've got the kit. It was plug and play. I did no cutting of the bucket, no wire splicing. It went in easily and I love the results. I got the kit with the auxiliary wiring harness.

Mine was plug and play also. It took me a minute to figure out how to take the stock pigtail apart to get the new fuel pump power wires in, but after that, it was a breeze. 96 model

personally, i think its a great 'kit' and idea but at the same time, i think all the intank wiring and tubing could stand to be a bit longer IMO, cuz it seems to me not all LT1 fuel pump brackets/wiring and tanks are created equal
longer wiring in the tank would make the install IMO go alot easier, its a tight squeeze in there with big hands, this was going thru the floorbaord also not dropping the tank, which the 'kit' was designed for

Plug and play here.. The hardest thing was getting the tank out of the car... I didn't have to extend any wires at all.....

I've had my kit in for over a year. I purchased the wiring harness for it. The wiring is plug and play but the pump isn't.
I didn't have the short wiring problem but I know of others that did. I did have a problem, the filter that was supplied didn't fit and so did a lot of other people but I think that was fixed.

I like the kit now that it's been in for a while. I like the wiring I think it's good quality.

You should test your pump before you put it in to make sure it works. The first pump I received was DOA and I had to pull it all back apart. I have also blown the fuse one time that is up by the alternator so you might want to keep a spare.
Also be very careful with your sending unit. I thought I was but when I got it back together my gauge didn't work.
Unless you cut the hole I would replce the sending unit while you're in there. I'm replacing mine while I put in my 12 bolt.

I think it's the best kit for our cars.

hmmm, i dunno, maybe its something 93 specific, i talked to the tech people at thunder racing, sent them a few pics, and they told me what to do. they said the mis lengthened wire was somewhat common for them, but they had never done a 93, and didnt know what the problems with the fuel pump would be as it appears to be the same one listed on racetronix, but obviously does not fit, nor closes properly without some modification. id like to hear what Racetronix has to say about it...i mean could i have possibly been sent the wrong pump? it does say GSS340 then LT1 carved in it. but i seriously do not trust it back there as it still does not sit perfectly straight do to the lid part.

I had to cut the ribs for clearance also but not much; the fuel tank was definity the hardest part to get in and out everything else was a brezze in comparison.

Apart from a small percentage or the buckets needing the inside ribs trimmed slightly there should be no other modifications required. There is no way to solve this problem as the Walbro pumps are a bit fatter than the factory units. This system is as plug and play as one can get. The harness is 100% fully PnP. One can not expect a fuel pump to be 100% PnP when the bucket must be taken apart etc.

All the fuel socks supplied for close to a year now DO fit the bottom the bucket. These are custom Racetronix filter socks.

We have never had a sample module here were the wiring was too short. The only explanation could be that some F98-LS1 wiring ended up in the F-LT1 pump kits. They are almost the same except for the length. We have gone through our inventory here and all are the proper length.
We are going to add another inch or so to the new F-LT1 production wiring to give customers a bit more slack to work with. We still recommend dropping the tank and can not condone the ‘trap-door’ method.

If someone is having problems with a kit it please bring it to Racetronix attention first / directly. Waiting for us to stumble upon a thread such as this will only add to the time it takes to get accurate answers and solutions.

We do not recommend that people modify the Racetronix supplied in-tank wiring. If someone has a harness that is too short please contact support@racetronix.com or the dealer from whom the system was purchased in order to obtain a no-charge replacement.

Just dont glue your finger to the bucket like I did That glue is awesome!

Mine was plug-n-play and wasnt too hard at all to install. Only negative I had was there was no instructions but RaceTronix answered their emails from me in less than 10 mins

Racetronix, i sent you an email and you gave me the instructions (i didnt check my email till this morning, i appologize) where it did state that some buckets were ribbed and had to be modified..the part of the wiring that needed to be lengthened was the wires that are supposed to plug into the fuel pump itself and the ground for the sending unit.

i was just going by what the install tech at thunder racing was telling me, he said the walbro's he had been installed werent as big as the stock pumps and my walbro is the same/slightly bigger. But thank you for the email, it cleared it all up for me, might be a good idea to include those instructions with the kit itself as it is kinda like a walk in the dark for someone who has never done a fuel pump before.

On the subject (kinda) does anyone have a source and part number for the sending unit? I had a Walbro 255 put in last summer and I've had no gas gauge since... next time I drop the tank, I want it to be the last time.

airos4,

I don't have the part number but I just ordered it a couple weeks ago from Jason Cromer. It was about half price of anywhere else.
Just call Jason or email me and I'll get you the part number.
I'm doing mine with my new 12 bolt and I hope thats the last time
