People with Long Tubes and Single Cat inside please

Everyone, I am picking up a set of Jet Hot Long Tube headers soon. I am unsure if i should go a dual cat conversion OR stay with a single cat. People with single cats who converted to dual sound off what you think about my situation. Any comments or suggestions welcomed. It just seems from the pics i have seen, Long Tubes through a single cat seems a bit restrictive. Lemme know what you all think.

single cat wont be too restrictive, its not going to kill your performance. and its easier to install, just buy like a 3" random technologies cat.

Its just a shame NJ has emissions we dont anymore here in MN =P so i run no cats, i think it hurt my low end though i have nearly no backpressure..

It would be cheaper to run only 1 cat, but almost every high HP car I've seen with cats has had the dual cat setup after the header. Might even make a sound difference.

if you don't care about emissions why are you worried about running cats?

DON'T buy a Randon Tech!! You'd be better to buy a CarSound and send me the extra $150!
Check this out...
http://www.installuniversity.com/ins...n11.122001.htm
You can find the CarSound or MagnaFlow on ebay for $35-70 each.
Now, to answer you're question. I have the JetHots on my car and I'm trying to decide the same thing you are. I spent almost an hour under the car today trying to figure out where exactly the second cat would go. The driver's side won't be a problem at all but the pass. side will be tight. When I found out that a good flowing cat could be had for $50+/- I figured I would do 2 but the space is limited and if you go w/ a tiny cat you're not going to have good flow, per Bill @ Mufflex. I'm now thinking that I'll do a y-pipe to a good single cat and then to the Borla cat-back system. It will put the cat by the g-load brace and shouldn't be a problem fitting. I don't see how the possible few extra HP is going to be worth the headaches of squeezing the extra cat in there. If anyone has pics showing how they got the second cat in a single cat car I'd love to see them, please.
That's just my .02. I'll be watching this post to see what other people think about this. Perfect time for this post!

Well i am not worried about emissions, but i am worried about it being to loud, haha. I mean long tubes, going stright to an SLP Loudmouth is gonna be quite loud, haha. So URAPNES, your gonna go with a single cat setup on your car? As for the cats with long tubes, what my buddy did was he got his custom Y pipe custom WITH the cats welded in, so the cats are actualy at the same level with the LT's, right around the tranny area, its pretty low, but i dont think he is having to many issues. But i mean cutting the y pipe, welding these cats in there, goes seem like a PITA. So what do I do? haha

After doing some research, I decided to go with 2 cats on my 95. The new engine going in will have more power and I heard that 2 cats were better if you were considering a high hp engine. I just bought 2 carsound hi flows(32.95 a piece) and a hooker y pipe. I was told to put the cats right off the headers and then connect the Y pipe to the cats. I heard having 2 cats will help with the "popping"...I hope so atleast. I'll let you know how it works out when we drop the engine in.

if your going to use one cat, then your going to need a custom Y pipe made, becausethe aftermarket ones would place the cat to far back. Cats must be close to the header outlet to work properly, they need the heat, this is why the government says you can't change the stock location. You will need the driver pipe to kind of right angle right into the other pipe as soon as it leaves the collector in order to leave enough room for the cat.

I'm the buddy, and the custom Y I had done worked out fine with 2 cats. The cat's are right after the headers and the pipe was built off the cats. I dont have any clearence issues at all except for big speed bumps on the campus I go to school at.

Any updates on your setups? Im getting one 3" carsound cat installed tomorrow with my lt headers. I never thought of doing two cats since this car was originally a single cat car. Whats the significance of running two cats?

thank you

I ended up having Mufflex make a dual cat y-pipe for me. Here is what it ended up looking like.

Mr. Whitey,

Looks excellent!! Must have cost a pretty penny, but looks to be worth it.
