Peeps w/ the 6spd conversion..How long did it take you???

Just trying to gauge some labor hours as a few shops I've contacted claimed atleast 22hrs minimum to do my conversion???

I've read here some people who actually performed the swap in their garage??? So, i'm assuming it should take no 22 hours??? What are your thoughts on this as far as difficulty rating 1-10??? I'm almost tempted to do this myself but dont want to get stuck in the middle.... Another shop quoted me between $600-$100 to do all of the install but i'm afraid he might not know what he's getting into and leave me out to dry....

All told total it took me 3 months, but at the same time I had ALL winter had to wait for parts, and I worked on it a half a hour at a time on the weekends when I wasnt in school etc.
It can be done in a weekend no problem and the hardest parts involve cutting into the car and wiring.
I had a bunch of help from my one buddy with guidance and I used the board for a ton of advice.

If you can read directions, follow pictures and can take out and install a tranny you can do it no problem. Dont pay anyone to do it.

It took me one afternoon I pulled it into the shop by 1:00 Pm and was driving home with it by 6:00 Pm , not bad time but it was my second one and I have a lift and air tools. I would say if you have all the parts I would rate this job about a 5 or 6 on a scale of 1-10 the hardest part is drilling the master cly hole, after removing the bake booster and the pedals. THe hole for the floor is easy if you have the boot in you have you can see were it fits in. Good luck getting it done if you lived near me I would do it for $250 out the door in one days time.

I think it all depends on how in depth of a swap you do.

I think you can get by with just swapping the tranny, cutting the necessary clearance in the floorpan, and installing the pedals / master cylinder assembly. But if you want to do it "right" you can also pull off your steering wheel and swap the ignition key cylinder out so you have a button for your key release like real M6 cars do, and then also swap out your entire engine wiring harness.

A couple guys in my car club have done it... most recent guy took about a week working on and off in his garage with the help of a couple friends. I'm pretty sure you could do it in a weekend by yourself if you had all the parts / tools and an extra set of hands. I'll know for certain when I swap mine out in June

Took me three days, working on it at different times of the day Mine was a longer time to get done because I was waiting on some parts. IMHO take the steering column out and the brake booster loose it will make the whole pedal thing MUCH easier. IMHO I would NEVER pay a shop to do it. It is a very time consuming thing but not hard it all just bolts together. I think that estimate is reasonable actually especially because the shop doesn't know what its getting into. Do it yourself and spend the labor money on some more horsepower to enjoy with the six speed or a 12 bolt for high rpm launches

Any tips? 7 hours is pretty freakin' fast! If I could swap my tranny out in a weekend that would be great....

Well you saw my tip take out the steering column and loosen brake booster so you can move it out of the way. I am putting a new adj master cylinder in and dropping the steering wheel is like 5 bolts and brake booster is 4 and the master cylinder is right there . On a stock 6spd car this prob isn't necessary but my holes are just big enough for the MC makes it pretty tight

Just take your time and follow online instructions its actually really easy.

As long as your car promises not to spew thick black smoke on me again like you did last time on the SR14 onramp

LOL That is good tuning if your car could keep up you wouldn't have to worry about that

Of course your car holds it own with little mods mine has thousands into it and can barely keep you at bay! So much props to the green beast

Don't make me own you with my new cutout.

I have a feeling that with an M6, gears, and tuning that my green beast is going to be no more than a little green dot in your rearview.

Hurry up and get that car over here so we can put on that S-Trim!
