Passing emmisions?

Will a low mileage LT1 with no cats or egr pass a smog test? I just moved to GA, and my Fiero has an LT1 with all the smog stuff off it. Is it possible at all? Any additives I can use? Thanks.

You could try running the tank down to 1/4 or less and putting in a 2 or 3 bottles of gasline antifreeze. Methyl Hydrate burns pretty cleanly but with no cats I don't know if that will do. Can you pay some place to do a test before the official one so you know whats up? Then try the Gas line stuff.

I believe the vehicle has to pass the emissions for whatever is newer re engine or car but I'm not sure. The cat makes the biggest difference as it finishes up the combustion process which is only 25% efficient. Maybe you could pay someone for a pass if they don't have to hook up to a phone line to the state while testing your car.

won't pass...i live in GA and my LT1 wouldn't pass without a cat. no matter what I tried. Only thing i can say is if you don't want to put all the stuff back on(cat. egr, etc...)is if you know someone out of state who you can register your car with, do it there and get a tag from that state.

I don;t understand why you all even take the cats off, to get 2 extra horsepower? That's downright selfish of a person, take off something that cuts polution just to get 2 stinken horsepower, it should should against the law and incure heavy fines or jail time, IMO. It's like smoking cigarettes in an elevator. That's the problem with society today, nobody gives a crap about anyone else.

people take the cat off for sound too, some people just like the results of it....and not all places require emissions because there isn't a problem with pollution in that area. Plus if your car is old enough you are exempt from emissions, and some cars like that are far worse than any "pollution controlled vehicle" with just the emissions parts taken off

Why do people take the cats off? Let's see here: sound, weight, power, cost of replacement, packaging, etc..... Peavey72 has an LT1 in a Fiero, so I would imagine the stock LT1 exhaust system with cat(s) is not a direct swap. As far as everyone being selfish, yeah we are all selfish, but so what? Why should I leave the cat on my car???? Because YOU are worried about the pretty little trees and flowers? I think not. Maybe you should buy a HONDA Insight, or possibly a golf cart. As for me, I'm gonna go dump some oil down a well. Peace.

Have you ever put an LT1 in a Fiero? Ever seen a Fiero? There isnt a lot of room to work with. I can do it, but it was MUCH easier to do without, and when I started the swap I was living in Iowa, a state with no testing. It is illegal, there is jail time, and there is a $10,000 fine. Thats 10 thousand. Its steep. The reason I cant have one is im using a flowmaster 80 series. A big muffler. Now, I have to rework half my exhaust on a system that was hard enough to work out in the first place. All because tree hugging hippies like you dont like it. Heres a thought, get a Honda. You drive a V8. Not a motor known for its friendly polutants. To summorize, there was motive behind my cat removal. Some people do it for the reasons mentioned, some do it becuase theirs gets clogged up, and dont have the funds to replace it. They do cost over a hundred dolars, a lot of money to some.

You've got thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours to rebuild a car but you don't have $150 to get one more part to make your car legal and to help protect the enviorment. And nobody try to tell me you don't have 16" of straight pipe to fit it because that is a load of crap just like everyone saying that removing the cat changes the sound and it helps weight reduction.

When are you ASSSmonkeys going realize that no one cares if your car is 0.1 sec faster than it was before and your not a badass or smarter that everyone else because you removed emission control equipment. That just means your a selfess jerk.

Its not the money, so to speak, but look at it this way. I cant use the 80 series(thats already installed) if I have 2 cats. If I get 2 more cats($300 for 2) then I need a new muffler(another $200) then I need to reroute the plumbing, ill need probly another $50 in pipes. Now were at over $500, plus my old muffler isuseless, and that cost me $100. Add the time to do it when I could be enjoying my 12 second Fiero, and you might be able to see where im comming from(were at over $600 with the loss of the 80, I cant really resell it wither because I knotched it for this application). But you seem to be a pretty colse minded person. This has nothing to do with me being a bad-***, or gaining 1/10th in the 1/4. I would prefer cats so it will quiet down a little. This thing is going to be LOUD. I dont think the ozone is going to be saved by my car having its cats on, but you seem to think so.

Oh, and if you dont think that taking a cat of changes the sound, then you obviously dont know to much about cars. It will change the sound dramatically.

yep, mine is a gutted cat and it sounds different than if it was a full one. I just bought a used cat. off of this board, and had a muffler shop weld some flanges on it, the gutted cat, nd on the pipes so I can just bolt it on and off as I want for emissions testing, and if there is a way that you can do that to your fiero, it wouldn't hurt. or you can just get a new carsound cat for like $30-$40 off of ebay and do the same thing with the flanges

Thats a brilliant idea. I must be a retard to have let that slip my mind. Anyone know what the smallest cat is? If its there, thats all they would need as long as it passed. Its worth a shot I guess. Ill look, and see how much room I have. Thanks a ton mate.
