Passin emissions with LTs
Passin emissions with LTs
Ok this guy is selling me is Pacesetter LTs with an off road y-pipe. He says that since I am an OBD2 car that I can still be able to pass emissions. He is going to leave the egr and air lines there for the inspector to see. As long as there are no SES lights I should be able to pass. Is he right? The inspections aren't to thorough around here.
Not having an SES light illuminated is part of it, but also in some states, you can fail if your PCM has too many "not ready" statuses set in the PCM. Illinois for example, only allows you to have two. These come about when you have certain things such as the AIR, EGR, rear 02s, ect. deleted from your PCM via tuning. However, if you are going to keep the AIR and EGR systems functional, and if you plug in o2 simulators in the rear 02 harness connectors, then you shouldn't set any "not ready" codes in the PCM.
i'm an inspector, albeit in Texas. if i see cats i'm cool with it whether they're stock location and number or not, but if they aren't there you aren't passing. unless the tech knows the car pretty well you should be able to get away with no A.I.R. system on there and possibly no EGR either since it's at the back of the intake manifold and nearly completely out of sight. plus, a ton of vehicles including 2002 F-Bodies and GM trucks don't have EGR on them from the factory and i think rely totally on the three-way catalysts to clean out the NOx emissions. i'm not sure how they deactivate certain systems when tuning a PCM, if they remain in NOT READY status to prevent the CEL, that might be the only hangup. we only allow 2 here as well.
Thanks for the help guys. I don't have emissions for another year and a half. So I guess if I still have the car I can always get cats put on down the road. Then I'll only have 2 codes, air and egr so I should be fine.
