What is the easiest/most used way to do these?

Re: Passenger side plug wires

I did my 97 SS form underneath the car. It was easier for me that way. I put it up on ramps and used about 2-3 hours on a Saturday. Good luck its a fun job.

I also did it from underneath the car. I disconnected the Y pipe for better access as well. Of course you will also need to remove the alternator to help snake the wires through their original location.

Re: Passenger side plug wires

stuff like this makes me wonder why GM would make things so hard to do, was it so we'd take our cars to a dealer service center and spend more there?

also why I like working on my Galaxie, no computers, no sensors, no emissions. and I can literally sit in the engine bay with a 460 BBF and change plugs and wires in about 10 minutes, and I'm 6' tall and 250 lbs. which makes getting my hands and arms through certain ares in my Camaro's engine bay very difficult.

Re: Passenger side plug wires

You need to remove the altrenator and for easiest access remove the starter or at least unbolt it. Underneath the car for the back 3 and up top for the one closest to the front.

Re: Passenger side plug wires

i can reach all the wires when they are on the plugs i just need to know how to route them through stock locations. Because it seems like the power steering pump creatively blocks access.

It's the LTCC from Bob Bailey with the coils mounted to a set of MBA fuel rail covers.

Re: Passenger side plug wires

On the passenger side I did the front 3 plugs from the top. If you lay across the engine it's not that hard to get to them, and you can do it without removing the altenator. For the last plug go from the bottom, try removing the starter first as it's easier to remove than the y-pipe. I ended up having to remove the y-pipe also but if your arms are smaller than mine you might get lucky.

Re: Passenger side plug wires

I just put the MSD 8.5mm wires on my 96 SS. The passenger side was a pain in the butt because the MSD's wouldn't fit in the stock holder that goes around the corner of the block behind the ps pump. So I had to rip that wire holder out and it wasn't easy. I had the car on ramps and ended up taking out the battery to help fish the wires down to the opti. You can either drop the y-pipe or drop the starter to get to the rear plug. I was able to get to it without dropping either one, but if you pull the battery then it's a no brainer to drop the starter. But the new wires made a big difference in how smooth my engine runs now. It had 85K miles on the stock wires.

Re: Passenger side plug wires

I did my set of MSD 8.5'sfrom a combination of me being under the catr and my buddy being in the engine bay. I never lossened any thing but the Y Pipe. The guy on top can push the wires toward the distributer while you pull. Itsw the easiest. There is no easy way to do it though. I hated it. I got very frustrated. the collector?organizer factory holders are useless with the bigger wires. Tear them out. It makes the wires easier to snake around. Thats all the tips taht I got. O yeah also: Be sure to make sure that those wires are out of the way of all pullies. If one is against a puly in any way it will cause a misfire and the car will idle really bad. It happened to me. Hope this helps
