Thumbs up Passed Smog in Cali w/ CC305 Cam

Wow, I was sweating going to the smog shop all this month knowing it has to be Test Only Center and my car had all the stuff done to my car just last month.

Good News is, it passed smog so i'm pretty stoked!!!!

Numbers weren't that good as looking at the results I barely passed:

HC

15 mph : Max = 83 / Measured = 82
25 mph : Max = 48 / Measured = 47

CO%

15 mph : Max = 0.48 / Measured = 0.03
25 mph : Max = 0.46 / Measure = 0.01

Testing tech claims the numbers reflect I have a bad misfire ofcourse I didnt tell him I had a cam done...

Excellent...I'm glad we don't have any inspections of any sort here in Iowa, or they would find out that my car clubs baby seals everytime I turn the key.

I don't believe it. I just have a Hotcam w/headers of course and it took me 5 tries to pass and I just made it at 48. Now I do have a hi-flow cat which may have hurt me. Do you have a hi-flow cat?

Yes. I have a Catco 3" Hi Flow that went with my full exhaust (Headers, catback...etc)

I did an oil change, filter, and drove around for 30 min then took the test. Like I said I was very shocked I passed in 1st try as I heard of other cc305 cam owners who had to do massive PCM tune just to barely pass so I guess I was extremely lucky.

Yes, you certainly were. It took me months to finally get this thing to pass. First I changed the 02 sensors which brought all the numbers way down but was shy on the HCs by 1 point. Took me four more tries to get that down just 1. I drove over 40 minutes and I think that did it.

Was this all for a "Hot Cam"???

I thought HC was the easiest cam to pass in Cali but for the gain I wanted to stick to atleast a 305 for future needs and I'm really glad I did cause this thing pulls hard.....

I guess I wont have to worry about this thing for another 2 years and maybe then the 5th gen could be out and if I cant pass time to trade it in for the newer ones... MMMMMM LS6 on the 5th gen... jk

Yes. I had it tuned by PCMforless also. Bryan said to try changing the O2 sensors which I did and that made a huge difference but still came up short.

Re: Passed Smog in Cali w/ CC305 Cam

how do they measure your smog in Cali? here in Denver area it's by GPM and my HC limit is 1.2 and CO is 20.0. we also get tested for NOx levels too, with a limit of 3.00

Re: Passed Smog in Cali w/ CC305 Cam

hey, im in sd also. I just passed smog back in june, but of course i did all my motor stuff over the summer so i definitely have no way of passing smog with the mods i have now.

I know of a few ways that i will be able to get around the smog problem though if you know what i mean. sucks that people have to resort to other options to enjoy their muscle cars.

congrats on passing though.
