Pads and Rotors

I posted this in the brake section but no one replied... sorry

First off, what are better for daily driving on LS1 Slotted Rotors in the front. Ceramic Pads or Hawk?

2nd, I need a new set of rear rotors for my stock LT1 rear brake assembly with a set of Hawk Pads.

In the front, possibly new Slotted Rotors and a set of pads (Ceramic or Hawk)

Where do you think I should get this stuff? Any brands people are infatuated with?

Re: Pads and Rotors

Most def go with the Hawk HPS pads. I love them, stop great and very little dust. i picked up mine at a local pepboys, they were 76$ compared to thunderracing that has them for 85$ for my front LS1 brakes. Check with ur local pep boys to see if they carry HAWK pads...they may have to order them for ur application, as far as rotors im not too sure what are good. From what i read if your on a budget, autozone makes some decent rotors. i would just stick autozone rotors on ur rear's and look for a nice set of slotted or cross-drilled rotors for the fronts.
Good luck

Edit* I daily drive my car everyday with the Hawks, but still have the stock front rotors from an LS1

But what are the benefits of Ceramic pads? Not trying to go against your judgement... just a little unsure why Ceramic wouldn't be better?

The McLaren SLR, Porsche, etc... cars like those all use Ceramic pads. Just thought it would be smart to go with what they chose. L0L

Re: Pads and Rotors

Its been sometime since I did my pad homework but ceramic if I remember correctly ate up rotors quicker than HPS style. They did come factory and have some decent benefits but for most people HPS is a great pad. There are some HUGE threads on this if you do a search, I spent hours looking through the threads over cermamic vs Hawk vs green stuff, etc. Any reason you put slotted rotors on the LS1?

Re: Pads and Rotors

Hmm... Usually it's the green stuff pads that will chew up a rotor really badly. My friend ran some on his :gasp: Cobra for a while and it looked like someone had taken a router to his front rotors.

And He'll be smoking the green stuff when he goes flying by me like I am standing still Damnit

Back to topic, sounds like green stuff may not be a good move. Some folks swear by it but I think Hawk HPS is a overal good move. Great braking characteristics, but low dust and wear.

Re: Pads and Rotors

So no one for Ceramic? Oh well...

Where do I get the Hawks HPS pads? Pepboys? Sounds like a plan

What about rear rotors... slotted with Hawk HPS pads as well?

Lol, he sold the Snake for an Infinity. Now he's trying to sell that. He goes through more cars in a year than I have owned in a life time.

I don't think those cars come with ceramic pads - probably ceramic rotors. I'm not sure though. To my understanding ceramic pads are great for low dust, but aren't necessarily a "performance" pad. I don't see folks using them on tracks, for example.
