Pacesetter LT's and X Pipe

I am going to run Pacesetters LT's and the X Pipe from Summit (2 1/2). Anyone have experience with this? Anyone run into any problems installing the headers or x pipe?

I'm getting the race headers (no emissions), 2 1/2" Universal Summit X Pipe Kit, and Chambered Mufflers... (Nice cam too :-))

Just curious if I should take any precautions on the install, everything is going in on the 12th. Just getting a little nervous.

Does the X Pipe come with enough clamps/u bolts to complete this install? Or should I just suck it up and spend the little extra to get aftermarket clamps and hangers?

Send me an email or pm to let me know how it goes. Thats exactly the setup I plan on doing this summer but I haven't gotten any feed back from an earlier post about it.

Re: Pacesetter LT's and X Pipe

I recently finished doing the Summit 3" X-pipe kit with the 24" dynomax bullets, but with the Jet Hot LT's. Before I chose this route, I did a search and found a few long threads on this topic. From what I remember, the PaceSetters will work, but you will need to modify some longer turndown extensions because the headers are a little farther apart than the Hookers and Jet Hots. In regards to installing the universal kit, it pretty much had everything except the tail pipe hangers. I bought 2 standard tail pipe hangers with swivel's on them from Pep Boys. It had the correct amount of exhaust clamps, but I ended up using some stainless steel band clamps to give me a little more ground clearance. With the 3" clearance is a premium

Oh yeah, you will need to get collectors that will allow you to attach the universal pipes to the headers . .. they are @$30 or so.

Collectors for the Pacesetter? Really?

Well, i'm probably going to point them straight back for a little, since I heard you need to purchase something to get the turndown.

How did you guys reduce from 3 to 2.5" without welding?

Get some band clamps to attach the exhaust to the collectors. You can order them from Jegs. The Pacesetters are slip fit and not a flange bolt on style like the Hookers and Jet-Hots. The band clamps IMO are a must have for the Pacesetters and will work alot better then the flange style the Hookers have. Once I tightened mine down enough, there's no way they will ever leak.

Use a slip on 3" to 2.5" collector and tighten the **** out of it. Never take it off because it distorts the metal a bit whenever you tighten it like that. As said before the Pacesetters side wider apart at the collectors, so you might have to take it to a muffler shop for them to fab up the pipes that go from the collector into the x.

Re: Pacesetter LT's and X Pipe

You can purchase a slip fit collector that goes from a 3" to a 2.5". As mentioned above get some band clamps to attach this. I got mine from a local Speed shop for $10.50 a piece (stainless steel). Since my hookers have the three bolt flange, I purchased a hooker 3" collector, then used a band clamp to attach the exhaust pipe to the collector. Same thing for the turndowns . . . you can get a set for under $30. I used band clamps for these also. This way I can test out which angle to have the turn downs pointing in regards to noise. Currently I have them facing each other. This seems to work the best and gives me the most ground clearance.

Re: Pacesetter LT's and X Pipe

i know with my hookers, the summit universal kit bolted right up too them
i used 3" all the way back too the dumps
3" full size mufflers too

i had too buy 3" too 3" collector reducers, 3" turndowns, 3" mufflers and 3" x-pipe kit
watch which collector reducers you buy tho, there are 2 different kinds from summit. i bought the wrong ones and had too get them expanded too fit over the 3" pipe
they sell 3" inside diameter and 3" outside diameter reducers (same goes for 2.5" pipe)
might as well go 3" pipes, because by the time you get too the mufflers anyway, they are going too be thicker then 2.5" and the whole idea of using 2.5" pipe for ground clearance is lost by that time...ya see?

Re: Pacesetter LT's and X Pipe

i dont know about you other guys with pacesetters but mine tuck almost on the floorboards....and slip fit connector is not gonna fit!!! if you look at a y pipe made for the pacesetters the pipe at the driver side slip fit is pressed/bent in to clear for the floorboards...so if you get the summit kit your prolly gonna have to beat the **** out of the driver side where it connects to the header...just my $.02

Are you serious? I was hoping to tackle all this at my friends house next Sunday.

So then how many band clamps did you guys use on your Pacesetter LT install?

Only clamps I used were attaching the reducers to the collectors, the rest is welded.

Doesn't take much ingenuity to get past this setback. It's all in the positioning of the reducer.
