Pacesetter LTs vs MAC Mids

I got a quote from Jet-Hot for some MAC Mids for my 96 and their Y pipe -- shipped for $673.75.

However, there's some coated LT pacesetters for 400$ but I'd need a custom Y pipe for those and some O2 extensions -- that would come out to 600+shipping.

Easy access to plugs is a priority right now -- and I've heard good things about the MACs but not a lot about the pacesetters on that. Any recommendations?

You are looking at the wrong MAC's. Don't ask for the ones for the '96-'97

Ask for the '94-'95 style.

They are better than the '96-'97 style. They are more like $560 shipped from Jet-Hot. That's what I got, and I have a '97 that also had dual cats. Now I have one cat, after the Y-pipe.

Do you have emmisions in your area?

You can see the difference between the two styles at http://www.macperformance.com/store/...ategory_ID=567

What else did you need between the y pipe and your catback? Just the S pipe? There's still 2 pre-cat O2 sensors right?

Hell no, no emissions.

I think I'm going to go with the MACs -- I've heard too much good stuff about them and I'd rather have easy spark plug access and a really good fit and ease of install over a couple of rwhp.

You're going to regret it down the road.

Why is that?

I don't race -- nor am I desperate for every pony I can get. So unless the car blows up because of the MACs and my left nut goes missing, I won't regret it.

I believe Dr Mudge cracked 400rwhp with AI heads & cam with MAC's a while back. Phil also has someone else on his site hitting 411 through 1 5/8" shorty headers. Just a couple of examples, but they illustrate the point that good power can be made without joining up with the LT Kool-Aid drinkers.

Yeah, that's right. At the bottom of the page, in the link above, there are two LT1's with heads/cam with MAC mids that are SAE 411 rwhp and 401 rwhp. Holy crap!

One other thing I noticed is that the car with MAC's (Eric Buss) put down more HP and especially TQ than the car with Hooker LT's.(Brian Santore ) These cars have the exact same cam and heads. The car with MAC's put down 401/378rwhp/rwtq and the car with Hooker LT's put down 399/357

I didn't realize that. Thanks for letting us know Jkipp. Makes me even happier to know that I can support those kind of HP/TQ #'s if I wanted to.
