P&P heads on stock Cam?

might have to do a head gasket sometime soon thinking of getting some ported heads to go back on (or getting the stockers ported)

What kinda of heads should i get to run on a stock cam?

PS i am not doing the cam because i dont have the $$ and wont any time soon so if i am going to have to pull the heads i want to at least get something out of it

but any sugestions are welcome

I think you should wait and see what kind of cam you will put in there. It is best to match the heads to the cam.

Welp might as well throw some p&p heads on there if you going to be doing head gaskets.. save yourself some trouble of doing it all again later.. Can't go wrong with so LE heads. Then you'll be ready for that big'ol cam you can swap in since your in there changing that water pump

Actually it is better to match the cam with the head flow, therefore whatever heads you go with you can get the appropriate cam at a later date. I'd get some expertly ported stock castings.

heads

While you have them off, might as well port them,2.0 valves and .022 head gasket. Then you will be ready for any cam you choose.Put longer valves in to let you run big lift, and good springs and let LE spring them up with GOOD retainers and locks. You will really be ready then.Get LE to do the intake too.You can get a TB,large CAI and a BIG K&N anytime along the way.
You will notice a SOP difference, especially if you get a tune.

Lloyd Elliot has a heads and cam econo type combo for $1100! This package would be a great improvement over having just ported heads with a stock cam or a larger cam with stock heads.

I'd drop him a line: nighttrain66@msn.com and see if it's something you might want to give a shot.

This package with new roller rockers and the various related stuff like fluids, gaskets, etc, might put you over the $1500 budget by a couple hundred though. I'd try to price everything out and narrow it down to as close a number as you can, then see what's what.

I think this is a good point.

Ported heads and custom cam is the way to go. I'm still deciding wether I should sell my 230/236 and go the custom cam route myself...

I have LE heads with big valves, 1.6rr, E-waterpump, mac headers, cm612 springs and the stock cam in a 96 A4 TA. I still have the stock tune. It has no lowend any more but the topend pulles hard. I should be getting it tuned here soon and will post up the #'s.
