oxygen sensors

I have a 1996 dual cat camaro, I need to get new oxygen sonsors, I know I have four sensors but do I need to repalce the ones after the cat? I heard you only need to replace the front sensors and not the rears. Will changing the rears have any benifiet?

Re: oxygen sensors

The front 2 O2 sensors are used for closed loop control on the engine. The rear 2 sensors monitor your cats and throw a code when your cats go bad or the sensors go bad.

Re: oxygen sensors

Just to be clear, all the rear o2 sensors do is tell me if my cats are bad, they serve no other pourpose? and should not be replaced if they are reading correctly, Is that right?....Thank You for your help

Re: oxygen sensors

No need to change your rear O2 sensors. Guys that delete their cats install rear "Sims", that simulate a proper signal of a rear O2 sensor.
