Overheating... water pump?
Overheating... water pump?
My Z has been leaking coolant for the past few weeks, I haven't figured out exactly where yet but it's coming from the front of the engine. I just kept filling it back up every few days. Last night I over heated left it at a bar for a few hours came back and tried to drive it home. I put more coolant in but it didn't help. Limped home before it got too bad.
On the way home I put the heat on full blast and no hot air was coming out. Just air no temperature change, and I'm positive it was on hot. When I went up a hill, the temperatue gauge dropped down to normal, then went right back up as soon as I cleared the hill. Still no change in the air coming out the vents.
What you guys think? Water pump?

Sounds like air pockets. If it's leaking out the front, chances are it's the WP. There is a weep hole on the bottom of it, just hard to see. Bad news if you let it go and keep leaking onto your optispark. They are a little more pricey to replace. I think you'll find enough people on here have had to go that route. Get a closer look at the WP and replace it if it's leaking. Don't wait till your opti dies too.

Unrelated to your leak, but still important is the fact that you need to bleed off any "trapped air" that has entered the cooling system (usually occurs when adding coolant to the system after a leak, repair, flush or whatever the reason the coolant is being added. There are two "air bleed" screws that need to be opened when re-filling coolant. By doing so, it will purge the trapped air from the cooling system. Shut them off when you get coolant flowing out of them. As mentioned above, take your time and locate the leak visually. Sometimes a cooling system pressure tester will help in locating the leak. Good Luck!
