overheating problem....

well got the new engine back and its overheating..

thermostat was old so got a new one the 160 one. Well put it in still started overheating, well then i took it out and ran the car without a thermo. Seemed to work for about 5-10 min then started driving and overheated again..

Now im thinking its the waterpump. It does have about 110k+ miles on it. You think my pump just went out?

Not sure, it could be the water pump. Might try the cheap fixes first, make sure theres no Air in your system (use bleeder screws under intake elbow) then replace the radiator cap. Are your fans coming on? Could be a clogged radiator as well.

Re: overheating problem....

Could be the pump. But before you do that, have you taken the top cover off the radiator to look down in front of it see if there was any debris in there? Just a couple of screws to have a peek.

I say that cause I had one of those plastic grocery bags in mine and it blocked about 1/2 the radiator.

You can tell if the pump is working with the radiator full, start it up. When the thermostat opens, the level usually goes down a little and you see it flowing out the core and into the side tank viewed through the cap opening.

To properly fill it, I like to do mine (have to do it every year when my heater core gets clogged ) this way.

Fill the radiator and the overflow tank. Start the engine and keep adding until it stops going down. Then shut it down and let it cool over night. Check the level of both next morning and add as nec. Done.
