Overheating issues and Engine
Overheating issues and Engine
Having major problems with my car, first started over heating, checked the coolant it was all gunked up. Not sure what happened, i had a battery explode not too long ago so maybe that contaminated it, or something got it in. Replaced the water pump, thermostat, took out the radiator and resvior cleaned them out by hand. There was a pushrod that was mislodged from the roller rocker, replaced that and adjusted the lash for all of them. Engine is running rough, still over heating. Coolant keeps disappearing, no signs of a leak. At this point im not sure if I blew a gasket or something else the first few times it overheated. Every garage I take it too says there is nothing wrong with it, so what im wondering is if anyone in the area could take a look at it or suggest a place to take it too.
Thanks,
Thanks,

Just outta curisoity, are your fans coming on? Is the passenger side floor mats soaked in antifreeze??(if it is; obviously the heater-core is bad) and ur SURE the auto parts store gave u the LT1 thermostat and not the generic SBC 350 one right? You mentione that the coolant was all gunked up, possibly theres a passage or jacket thats all clogged up...If the fans aren't coming on, i'd swap the relay with the fog light relay and see if they come on then...

Re: Overheating issues and Engine
I just got done replacing my head gaskets last week. I had some of the same problems you are having. It also sounds like you had oil in your radiator(milkshake). I bought this tool call a block tester part # bk 700-1006. You take off the radiator cap let the car idle put the tester on top of the fill neck. pump the ball a few time and if the blue die changes color (yellow). Then your head gaskets are blown.

Do you have the tell-tale white smoke that indicates a blown headgasket? If its running rough and losing coolant, chances are you've got a headgasket issue. Otherwise, the rocker issue might have caused roughness, and a clog in your coolant system could cause overheating. I had a blockage in the coolant vapor line (connects both heads on the back) and that caused intermittent overheating and then, a blown headgasket. Good luck.
