overheating and cant get enough coolant in

I replaced my opti and put everything back on. I drained everything and bled the lines. I also replaced the thermostat. I can only get in about a gallon of the coolant mixture. When i take the car for a drive, it overheats and the fans dont turn on. I can use my scan tool to turn them on though, so i know they work. Im stuck. Any ideas?

if its your fans that aren't turning on, i'd double check any fan relays/fuses, or any sensors that comply with the fan operation. the reason you're overheating is because of your fans not operating and i suppose since you're overheating, you're losing coolant when it gets too hot. Try checking all your sensors and relays to see if that could be your fan problem.

ill double check the fan fuses/relays. i cant even drive a quarter mile before i have to shut it off. the tach goes up above 230. the fans would help cool it down when it gets around 220 but it shouldnt get that hot that quick. i think thats because i can only get in 1 gallon of coolant/water mixture but i cant add anymore, its filled to the top.

Odds are you have a huge air pocket in your engine block,Remove the t-stat and fill it from there.Replace it and bleed it again. It should be good to go.
