Overheating

My '95 keeps overheating. I have read several posts about possible problems. I followed Shoebox's guide to draining and refilling. I thought I had bled the system properly through the screws. One spouts out coolant, but the other seems to only spew out moist air (even after several minutes). After a short drive, it gets up over 250 and has popped the top off of the recovery bottle. I have replaced the theromostat and radiator cap. The fans seem to be working fine. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

do you have all the coolant hoses run properly?when bleeding the system rev the engine up, it will help you bleed out all of the air.

Did you get the correct LT1 thermostat??? If your still getting air you have to keep bleeding the system.

You need to get that air out - coolant should come out
of both bleed screws. If you can get the car on an incline
(front end higher), then re-check the coolant level in the
radiator.

If you have the radiator topped off, and you're still only
getting coolant out of one bleeder, you might check to
see is something is obstructing the one bleeder. If it is
clear and you still cant get it to bleed coolant, you might
want to ensure the water pump's impeller is spinning. One
of my Z's has a borked driving gear (comes out of the top
of the timing chain cover, it's driven off the cam).

Here's how to tell .. there is a front "inspection cover" on
the front of the water pump - I think there's 5-6 bolts holding
it on ... be prepared for coolant to come spilling out. Once
you have the cover off, attempt to spin the impeller - does it
spin freely by hand? If so, you have a bad driving gear or
the splined sleeve (coupler) is stripped, or one of the splined
shafts at the water pump end of driving gear end are stripped.

You might also check that both fans are coming on.

with that much air in the system it sounds like a blown head gasket.. check under your oil cap, does it look milky?
