Question overheating

ok, my 96' T/A has been overheating for a while... i dont think it is the thermostat because ive had that problem before and it went from a fine temp to WAY high really quick, and took forever to come back down, but now it just goes up when im slowly cruising, and stop and go traffic (even when it's cold outside, just takes longer)... i figure its my fans, cause i got under the car when it was running and they didnt kick on... how do i fix that? and maybe thats not it, idk but im pretty sure, ne ideas would be great...tks

Re: overheating

If you turn the a/c on do the fans turn on(they should)? Check your fuse panels also.

Re: overheating

Also have your PCM scanned for engine temp. control. It can be changed to come on at a lower temp like 180* or 160*. I belive the stock setting is 215*, Now this means the fans will stay on longer but you won't overheat either. Although you might have to bump the temp up in the winter months to get good heat for the interior.

Re: overheating

If you unplug you ECT sensor on the front of your water pump while the engine is running, first one fan should kick on, then the other.

If both fans stop working it is unlikely that both fans failed. It is unlikely that both relays failed. Check your fuses. - JM.

Re: overheating

well, took it in cause i had no idea... but i guess it was a air pump or something like that for the exhaust that had a short in it, and that was blowing a fuse that made the fans work...so, idk... got er' fixed though...
