overheating?

My 94 z will run for about 5 minutes and the temp gauge jumps way up. I also notice if you turn the heat on the air is cool and normally will burn the hair off your legs. Coolant also seems to be leaking out of the water pump. I am assuming my water pump has failed but I am looking for second opinions

Thanks
Brian

Re: overheating?

Yeah, it sounds like you need a new waterpump. How much coolant have you leaked, have you kept an eye on the level. If you are very low on coolant, as well as having a defective water pump, I think you answered your own question on why your car is overheating.

Re: overheating?

yeah the radiator was only half full i was pretty sure it was the water pump but just wanted to make sure. I am planning on an electric water pump and might as well change the thermostat at the same time

Thanks
Brian

Re: overheating?

You might as well, a brand new Delco pump from the factory will run probably 250.00 which is slightly cheaper than an aftermarket electric unit.
