Overheatinf because of air pockets in cooling sys. Blown Head?

My car has been randomly overheating. maybe like one every 2 weeks. The first time it did it was after my install of a new thermo. I thought ok the stat is brok or getting stuck. Put the stocker back in and same thing happened.

Well after alot of f*cking around i finaly got all the air out of the system last night.
Now i was just putting in tap water and i think it was boiling at too low of temp and causing all the air over and over agin.
But i want to ask here is how to make sure this isnt the start of a head gasket leak posably putting air into the system.

After i put new 02s in last night i did about 4 WOT runs and the car heated up past red line on the last pull i think it just got hot and the water started to boil making air in the system causing it to over heat does this make sense?

Thanks for your time i am just very worried this is my only car and i have to go to work 75 Miles a day with no other transportation avalable

you should flush it and then refill it and see if that helps, you need coolant in there!

oh ya and did you refill the waterpump with coolant when you changed out the thermostat? If not that is probably where a lot of the air is comming from.

no i never refilled the pump with water i am thinking that is what started my problem, then when it would over heat i would just keep putting more water in it and eventuly it was like 90% water 10% coolant.

I did it the right way last night and got all the water out.

Do you think i am ok and it was just air in the system?

because of the reverse flow cooling, air will do some pretty funky things, so try it out and see just keep an eye on it. I'd let it idle for 20 minutes before you drove it anywhere, and keep an eye on the coolant level for a couple of weeks

Well i drove it to work today 75 miles didnt go past 180 Deg.
I guess ill just make sure its full and all the air is out and see how it does with a few hard runs.
