Angry over heating please help!!!!

Hello everyone, I was driving to work today, and before I got a half mile down the road mile car was at 280, I stopped and turn the car off and check the hoses to see if one had a hole in it, none of the hoses had a hole in it and I heard a whinding soung from the front of the engine. I believe my water pump went out, but I'm try to make sure this sounds right. Can someone tell me where the cheapest place to get a water pump and what kind? If this doesn't sound right please correct me. Thanks everyone

I would prevent from driving it until you fix the problem. When the car has cooled, check the coolant level. If it's fine, maybe your thermostat is stuck and need a new one. If your worried about the noise and your water pump..after car has cooled down..idle the car and open the radiator cap to see if the fluid is circulating. Basically, your waterpump goes out when it starts leaking out the weap hole or starts pouring out like a faucet..like when mine went out..what a mess.
For future reference just in case...you can do a phone order to these two guys for cheap gm parts. Contact Info: Wholesale Gm Parts

The thermostat is a real possibility although it wouldn't account for the noise. I had one quit in the middle of I35 and 5:00 in the afternoon and damn near burned the engine out. It got so hot that the gauges were flashing. Amazingly it didn't hurt anything. No prior warning at all. I intend to replce the thing with every coolant change from now on.
