Out of ideas

This all pertains to a 1993 LT1 freshly rebuilt - With optispark upgrade

Just rebuild the engine - Stock setup of Fuel injection , Stock computer, 95+ optispark, and PCM for LESS chip.

Problem:

Car has no power and catalytic converter glowing red and smells funny.

Question:

In Old School distributors moving +/- 5 - 10 degrees would not allow engine to run. We know that when we put the timing chain in we lined up the marks at 6 and 12 oclock. Our question is the following

Could the computer have the engine run SOMEWHAT correctly if we did not have the #1 piston at TDC when the optispark was installed - in other words 180 degrees off.

Also another clue -

At idle the engine almost stalls and then picks itself up.

NEW FUEL PUMP ( 255 Walbro) New Injectors ( 30# Accels - ALL SPRAYING - tested) New fuel filter , stock 1993 regulator.

Please Advise.

Re: Out of ideas

if the dowel is in the correct slot, it doesn't matter where the engine was

well, you asked if it would run if it was installed with the engine not at TDC, and the answer is, if installed correctly, it doesn't matter where the engine was..................

Re: Out of ideas

one thing you might want to check also, I have a 93' and I put in a walbro w/30 lb. accel injectors. and on the stock fuel pressure regulator, it was getting too much fuel, about 55lbs. at idle, you prob going to need a afpr to turn the fuel down... and for the cat glowing, could it be clogged?

Pull a couple plugs to see their burn color. White is lean/black is rich. I've seen the cats glow when dumping too much fuel into the exhaust system causing after-burn. Didn't have the car torn down long without the exhaust lead pipes plugged did you? I've had a mouse to nest in exhaust before? That one had me fooled for days.
Good luck.

I will look at the plugs - it would be great if this was about afterburn then all id need would ne a new regulator and set it to stock PSI which is what 44psi believe? I did have the exhaust system hanging for a while and that would be awful if a mouse decided to make that their home... poor little booger...

Really don't know how ya measure that response.
Take the cat off and gut it with a bar and see. Bet it ain't completely open and if it rattles is time for a new one or removal.

Re: Out of ideas

What's your fuel pressure?

You may just need to adjust your PCM tune for the CC305 cam.

I was thinking about that - however it was sent out to PCM for less and Alvins's reputation tells me it was done right.

I'm going out now to buy a gauge to test the fuel PSI
