Out of curriosity

A couple of days ago I baught a 95 Z28, m6, T-tops. It's got a new clutch, and new heads both from dealer. I paid 4k for the car and think i got a good deal, interior is damned well, full power everything works. Anyways, to the real things that mater about the car, the motor, 87k miles, runs very strong, and for some reason it feels a lot faster than my 93 z28 a4 did, even though the 93 had a chip, cold air intake, and exhaust. But anyways the real questions are what do you think the 1995 could pull bone stock at the track with a good launch? What does the average driver run and what does the pro run at the 1/4 mile? And also any tips for launching on stock tires? planning on going to the track soon but never raced a m/t at the track. Thanks for the time to read and sorry about the long post. Any and all feedback is apreciated

You can look for about a 14.0 give or take .2 depending on how well you drive the car, weather conditions, track conditions etc. Running a manual at the track takes some practice, might want to find an empty lot to practice in before you go!

any tips on good techniques for launching, if i use the lead foot i have no traction till 3rd, still bloan away by how much more power this car has than my other did, the tires are 245's on 16, even if 17's or 18's would slow the top speed would they make up for it wit the traction? i would like to go 17's caquse i think 18's are too much, but how do the lt1's deal with that torque change?

I don't think 17's will hurt your top end. When I ditched my factory 16s for some ten spoke 17" SS wheels I weighed them, they were so close I couldn't tell which was heavier. As for launching technique, most of the tracks here have terrible track prep, so you have to slip the clutch out. At some tracks where the prep is good and you have some grippy street tires you can dump the clutch out of the hole, just takes some experimentation to find out what RPM to dump at.
