Optispark Question.

I called my local NAPA here and they stated that they had a echlin remanufactured distributor for $260. Is this the whole opti or just the cap and rotor? I already purchased a cap and rotor kit. However I cannot find the stupid tool to remove the old cover from the opti so I am just wanting a whole new optispark.

Re: Optispark Question.

Just use a screw off an older rochester carb and put vise grips on the threads and use that as a socket to remove the small screws on the cap... That's what I ended up doing since I couldn't find a socket anywhere to fit those screws.

$260 sounds cheap for a complete opti, especially from NAPA... So I'd want to go down and check it out in person since it might be just the cap.

My father happened to see a MAC tool truck and stoppped him. He happened to have the socket. I forget what the # is but it is a specail tool. if it's what I'm thinking of it has the star pattern but with a hole in th center for that little piece that sticks up in the middle.

Re: Optispark Question.

Yah, they are E4 and T9 Reverse torx. No one carries them here. What a joke. Btw, this is my first day home after 2 months. I have been working out of town. So I come home today I am putting my top end together and I cant find the damn GM guideplates for the life of me... Damn woman prolly threw them away thinking they were trash or something. She did that to my EGR block off plates too. She still swears to this day that she didnt...

Anyhow, now my engine is delayed yet again. Women can be soo irritating! So now I have to re-order parts that I already bought before!

Sorry for the rant. I am just fustrated.

I found out that the echlin was just the cap and rotor.
They sell the optical portion of it for 200, but they give you 96 back when you bring your old one in. So that sounds great. Is there anything else that the optical portion of the opti doesnt come with that I would need to buy?

Yep, E4 and T9 sounds right. Don't think thee is anything else. I replaced the whole assembly when mine went so I can't be possitive about anything else you might need.

You can get a complete GM opti from Dal or Jason for ~$300. (non-vented)

Re: Optispark Question.

How can I contact Dal or Jason?

I bought a cap and rotor kit, and the E4 torx.

If my car starts right up, and is not throwing any codes, it just misfires when i get on it, I would think that could be a bad rotor, or bad injectors ( just changed plugs and wires) right

thanks guys!

Re: Optispark Question.

McMaster-Carr has e-4 external torq sockets and they usually ship in a day.
