Optispark identification help needed

I bought a replacment LT1 engine for my CMC race car after the '93 engine gave up from four years of hard racing.

The problem is that the I am unsure of the year model of the engine I bought. It didn't have an optispark and I need to purchase one. It is supposed to be out of a '95 model.

Is there an easy to way to indentify the engine and what optispark is needed?

Are 95-97 opti's all the same?

Thanks,

James

95+ cars used a vented optispark. Easy way to tell is the large drive mechanism on the back with a cloverleaf pattern. The non-vented optis have a small toothed drive shaft. A quick Google image search should show you the difference.

Since you don't have an opti to look at, you will be looking at the timing cover. You can see the difference in this diagram.

Rob....That is perfect. Yes the one I have has the large hole, so all opti's 95-97 are the same?

Thanks,

James

Yes, all the same. Stick with AC Delco or Delphi for best results....

That is what I planned to do, but what a huge disparity in price.

Cheapest for a Delco unit I could find was about $365 and this one is only $89.00. It is so cheap it is sure making me think about it.

I've never dealt with Chandler but have seen them mentioned. Do a search on here to see what they're like.

I wouldn't buy a cheap opti on a bet....I don't like changing the opti all that much. You might be different, of course,....

Chandler's reputation is mixed.

Someone recently posted this:

...but I don't know the credibility of the seller. Remarkably, their non-vented opti is cheaper, which is the opposite of historical data.

LOL, Amazon comes through. Not the first place you think of, but I have also found some cheap parts there from time to time.
