Optispark Harness

I am getting two codes: "one (36) for the high-res signal (opti-spark cap/rotor and/or its harness) and one (42) for the ICM circuit (could be the ICM itself and/or its wiring/harness)."

My optispark harness is craked at the optispark end right on the sensor, so I figured I would replace it and hope thats my problem. If not, it would probably be a problem eventually anyway so might as well

According to Shbox site:

1995-1997 optispark (vented)
electrical harness 12130319

Heres what I bought

Heres what mine looks like comparitively

Where did I go wrong here? For those that can't see, the plastic inserts on my old (which fits into my master harness) are on opposite sides, the new one is double on one side.

Can I file out one of the inserts on the new one?

Car is a 1995 Z28 M6

Re: Optispark Harness

Have you tried plugging it in yet? Do those tabs actually hit? Or do they fit between the pins?

Re: Optispark Harness

It would not plug in. The plastic inserts appear to be guides.

Re: Optispark Harness

Looks like you have the right part number but the right connector for it is on the left of your bottom picture. This should be the connector face you are looking for.

Re: Optispark Harness

I am confused, was this thing packaged wrong?

I just want to get a harness that fits =/

Afraid if I order another one, it will be the same problem.

Re: Optispark Harness

No, it's not wrong. You cut off the tab(s) that interfere with plugging it in. It's been documented in threads from time to time in the past.

Interesting, I've never read that. Neato.

Re: Optispark Harness

Shame on me.

I paid a premium for this one at the stealership because I was impatient and didnt want to wait for an online one and this is the result.

I cant believe GM sells a replacement part that has to be modified to function correctly.

What a crock.

Re: Optispark Harness

If I were you I would take it back to the stealership and demand your money back. You can buy 4 or 5 of them from EFICONNECTION.com for the price you paid. I have bought more than one of these in the past and I always got the right one, I never had to modify it to fit. If it was packaged that way with the wrong plug end on it you are probably not the only one that has gotten the wrong one.

Re: Optispark Harness

If there was a recall on this harness at some point they would of changed the connector style to prevent installers from using old stock parts by mistake. I have seen this first hand while working for a chrysler dealership.
