Optispark Experts, Please Inform Me...

ok so i notice many many people having problems with their opti sparks failing, mostly because of moisture, supposably there are vented and unvented optisparks, but the unvented optis are vented, they have 3 holes at the bottom... so either way, once the opti gets hott, its going to suck in moisture from normal driving. what if, since i have the old style opti, i just plugged ALL holes in the opti, and stopped ANY and ALL air vents, then moisture couldnt get in right? or would that hurt it or let it get too hott. eventually im going to a lttc setup, just having money issues at the moment, and need a quick fix

If it was as easy as pluggin the wholes they would never be there in the first place :P

Plugging those holes will make your opti go boom!

msd wants you to plug the holes , but you have to vent it .one tube goes to a vacuum port the other in the intake air tube.

Vented vs non-vented isn't referring to passive holes in the case halves, it refers to a positive air flow system (vacuum lines) which pulls fresh air through the opti via the intake manifold vacuum port. The high voltage system of the opti (cap & rotor) generates ozone inside the opti which is corrosive. Positive ventilation removes the ozone as you drive. This doesn't cure all the short comings of the original design, but helps to increase the life of the opti.
