Optispark Breaking in?
Optispark Breaking in?
I installed an O'Reilly Opti into my car and noticed a pretty wicked misfire even after changig plugs and wires when I changed the distributor. I ordered a new one and continued driving the O'Reilly Opti around until the new one came to my house. Anyway, after about 400 miles of driving around on it, the misfiring has stopped completely...and it stopped rather suddenly.
I am wondering if there is a break in period on all Optisparks or if this one was just messed up or what?

yeah it doesnt work like that...it should work instantly unless ..like what idid once, had the gear that drives the opti off by one tooth and it loaded the engine with fuel and ****..so when i fixed it..it ran like **** for about 15 min while i cleaned off the plugs by beating the hell out of it. theres a problem somewhere else.

Well, it was running like **** for about 400 miles then all of a sudden the idle is smooth, the stuttering is gone, I have my "topend" power back, etc. I didn't go under the hood once because I figured it was the O'Reilly distributor going awry. I thought that the teeth could have been misaligned or something...but before I got around to poking around in there it started working.

Oh, believe me that shaft is suppose to go in one way, but I managed to put it in the wrong way 5 times, the shaft was so worn on mine that I couldn't tell which way it went in. But it sounds like to me that maybe it was off just by a little bit, but finally shifted back to where it should be. I don't know

lol yeah thats what i did...i didnt know it wasnt supposed to "pop" in(forcing)..but slide in nicely. it was my first time doing it..by the 4th time that day..i had it down to 45 min to complete the job.
Re: Optispark Breaking in?
I have to do mine pretty soon. I just hope I don't pop it in wrong. It sounds like it's really easy to misalign it and end up having to re-do the whole job again, until it goes right. Who careful should I be when installing mine? And, how sure can I be that it is on right after it feels like it slid in fine?
