Optispark blockoff plate question

I just picked up a LT1 shortblock with Hot Cam from a friend...

This is going into a Chevy Nova so i will be running a Vic Jr intake with carb and rear mounted distributor. (Cheaper than trying to find everything needed to convert to FI )

I was looking at the Optispark block off plates and see that they must be used with the 95-97 timing covers..
My question is.. is this block off not needed with the early style timing covers, or can the early style timing covers not be used at all?

Thanks

A plug made for your Optispark ignition.
These GM Performance Parts LT1/LT4 front cover plugs are designed to block off the Optispark ignition when converting from fuel injection to a carburetor. They are made of aluminum and have a natural finish. They must be used with 1995-97 timing covers.

you will need the new style tiiming cover and the gm opti cover plate, it will make it easier because it also has your timing pointer on it

if you keep the old style cover you will need to make your own plug and you wont have a timing pointer

If your not using the optispark or the w/p drive could you just use a traditional sbc timing cover?
