Opti or what?
Opti or what?
I am debating on pulling off of my optispark to have it repaired or replaced; it is a MSD unit that I bought 13 months ago, but has less than 3,000mi on it. My car has a rough Idle and is a little off at low rpms, but is not really that noticeable. The worse thing it is doing is kicking back, breaking starters on start up;it doesn't do this every time I start it only sometimes. The plugs are new, the wires are new, and the fuel system is good. Even though the MSD unit is past the warranty period do you think MSD will warranty it for me or can they check it out to verify the MSD opti is working correctly? What other things other than the opti could cause the motor to kick back and blow the nose cone off of starters? I know it is not hydro locked; I think it is something ignition related, plug wires were swapped out twice along with the plugs. This is something like what my starter looked like, but mine was a lot worse; the entire housing split on mine. Its like the car is too far advanced CrackedStarter.jpg&t=1

Re: Opti or what?
This motor was in my 1996 z28; It started doing this shortly before it was swapped into my 1997 TA. When it was swapped all plugs and wires were swapped, the starter was removed and reinstalled into the TA with the motor. The starter blew apart when it was in the TA, the new starter I just put in is going to do the same thing, because the motor is still kicking back. If I unhook the ignition and fuel I can crank the motor with no problems at all.
