opti+timing chain problems...

I'll make this as brief as possible... then get to my point, questions..

I recently built a 383 stroker, and bought a cloyes true roller timing chain for my 94 splined opti, but turns out its for the vented opti only. I do not have the money to convert and never had a problem with mine. So, I returned this cloyes timing set and went to the dealer, after 5 friggin attempts they still get the vented opti version of the cam sprocket.

Ive given up hope, my old 350 had 158k miles on it before it broke down. Ive decided to use my old cam sprocket and order a new chain and crank sprocket. Its the best that I can do.

If anyone knows where I can get the proper cam sprocket for my car, please inform me now before I get all the "stocker" parts tomorrow.

My opti is getting rough on the bearings now however, its amazing its still alive after 158k miles, but doesnt spin smoothly. My dealer originally wanted 400 bucks for one, now its 625! Does ANYONE know where I can get a cheap 94 unvented opti? If not, im sticking with the old one.

Please, just point me in the right directions. Any emails, links or anything will be helpful. If anyone can tell me where to get a cheap opti, it would be most helpful.

Thanks! ... guess this wasnt so short

as far as the sprocket goes try Autozone thats where i got mine both sprockets and chain(don't put a new chain with old gears, it could f*ck u over in the end), as for the opti i got mine (Delco brand new) from napa...but maybe if u get in touch with Jeremy Cromer he can hook u up with a non vented i have a 97 so its vented...and what ever u do don't make the mistake i did; Put the timing cover on firsts THEN press the seals in (im sure u wont but i made that mistake) good luck!

Which cloyles dual chain did you get? Which part number that is?
I just bought one for my car, which is a 93 , with the sealed opti, and God I hope that works for my car, I'd be screwed if it does not fit. Please send me an email I'd like to talk to you. your email is not listed on the site.

Call Jason Cromer and get GM PART # 10128349 (cam sprocket for your non vented opti). While your at it, he can provide you with a non vented opti for ~$300 or less.

That is the part number that I told my dealers that I need. They do order the right number, but keep getting the vented opti cam sprocket. My local part boys are just plain stoopid, I've given up hope on the cam sprocket and the search for the proper sprocket. Ive gone back to the original cam sprocket, but new chain and crank sprocket. If this situation ever arises again, I will keep Jason's email and number handy so I can go through him, hopefully it wont happen again and will last for several years without problems.

About the cloyes true roller, I do not have the part number with me. I ordered through Summit, after having a conversation with Summit and the manufactor Cloyes, I found out they do not make a timing set for the sealed opti. This is what I was told, so you will probably end up getting the vented opti timing set.

I wish I had gone through Jason, and he probably would have gotten me the proper cam sprocket. Good luck you to 93Z.

Thanks for your help Shoebox

Well what I found out bud, was if you use a electric water pump, then you will be able to use that timing chain kit. I got the kit because I bought a new water pump-csi to be exact. So maybe that will help you. The pumps run 136.00 from jegs. Hope that helps.

Cool

I'm in Florence, KY. I've got a 95 vented opti off of my car. It's not in the best condition, but i'll get rid of it for cheap.

93Z.... So you bought an electric waterpump....that doesnt solve your optispark. The WP is no solution for your opti.
